Update 6/22/16

2nd set of windows came in to replace the 1st replacements that were installed. How's this for quality assurance...

Most definitely did not have these installed.

Update 5/27/16 -- I'm looking for opinions!!

I got my car back after the dealer was approved to replace the rear quarter windows, due to defective/rippled trim (see original post below). My passenger side came out great, but my drivers side is now worse, IMO. Originally I thought I could deal with it, but after after thinking about it, I don't think I should be "dealing" with it. Although very minor (in the grand scheme of things) this defect in the trim is very noticeable at almost any angle and from many feet away. I know this can be done right, I haven't seen any Mustangs with this defect (though I'm sure they exist).

Emails between the service manager and me:
-After the windows were replaced, the service manager said "The windows are completed. Although the seals are not perfect, they look much better than the ones we replaced".
-I asked "Could you go into detail about what's not "perfect" about them?"
-He responded "They look similar to the ones on the lot. No ripples though. I just know how particular you are."

My service manager asked me to let him know what I think, so i did, in the politest email I could write. It looks like the window was installed with putting some force on the trim or the trim came like that. I said that if these defects were noticed before installing the window by the parts person, himself, or the installer, then they should have alerted Ford. After all, this is similar to the reason the trim was being replaced. I've asked the service manager if this is the best they can do and am waiting to hear back. But I'd like your opinion, and a Ford Reps opinion (@FordService) on if this is considered acceptable.

Review these pictures and the ones from my original post below. The trim does not sit flush on the car and is creased/dented. Keep in mind, the defective area is certainly more noticeable in person.

I'm not sure whats up with IMGUR images not loading on mobile devices. The pictures work on a PC. Click the links if on a mobile device, the page loads blank, click in the URL box and hit enter again. Thats how I got the pics to load on my phone.

Original Post:
After taking delivery on my 2016, I noticed the top part of the rear quarter panel window trim was clearly not glued down well. There's also scratches in the rubber. I took it into the dealer for another issue (they lost my 2nd key and was having anew one programmed) and pointed it out. I mentioned it probably just needs a dab of glue and they agreed, but it was too cold.

In the meantime, I've looked at the rubber trim at an angle and in the light, I can see the bottom trim on both sides of the car are rippled, like more pressure was applied in certain spots during the initial install. The bottom peices can also be pulled up a little bit (this part may be normal).

I'm not scared of claiming warranty work (I got a dealer to replace the carpet in my 2010, talk about that service man being happy with that job). But before I go making a case, could some of you take a look at your rear quarter window trim to see if you have a ripple like effect in yours too? The best angle is standing towards the rear of the car, slightly elevated above the bottom trim peice, looking down on it with some kind of light source coming from the front of the car. If its "normal" I'll tolerate it. The scratches I'll also tolerate. They got hidden pretty well after the ceramic coating was put on.

Thanks!

The rear window moldings on my '16 does not have ripples like that.
I have not noticed other S550s with this problem - and I've inspected a lot of them.

The molding itself is stiff but still pliable, but not to the degree that there would ripples like that in the rubber after installation.

It seems to me that the moldings are defective.
Take it back to the dealer and tell them you want both moldings replaced under warranty.
The removal/replacement process should not be a big deal.
Please post your followup dealer experience and resolution.

Thanks for checking. I'll see if my dealer has an email I can forward these to. They are 30 miles away, so going there isn't super convenient, just so they can tell me they'll have to order them.

I emailed these pictures to my dealerships service department, they said they'd order replacement trim peices.

Strong work!
Glad the dealer is taking care of this issue.
I not could imagine they would give enough a hard time replacing these obviously defective window moldings.

What does your black trim molding look like that goes around the driver and passenger side roof line from B to A-pillar(where the door window would seal up against)?

The trim along the roofline looks fine. No ripples or warping.

I called the dealer this afternoon before tomorrow's appointment, to make sure they received the window trim. Come to find out, the dealer was told by Ford that they need to submit pictures and such through their systems. Apparently they replace both the window and trim, not just the trim. The dealer sent me the replacement part document which shows this as well.

So we'll see what Ford says.

Not surprising...the rubber trim was part of the rear side windows on the Fox body Mustangs too.
The whole window had to be replaced.

Hope you get it repaired.

When I bought my 2015 V6, it was used but well within the factory warranty, Well after getting home that first day I wanted to wipe the inside and about cut my hand on the cup holder chrome trim. Next day I was going back for window tint, told the dealer, they took a pic and within 7 days the part was in and repaired.
Good experience.

I imagine Ford will do whats right. Your situation a pretty interesting for sure. On my 2010 Mustang I got Ford to replace quite a bit (steering wheel buttons, guage rings, plastic prices that lined the headliner before the door windows and the entire cars carpet).

If you make a crappy part or product, then its up to us as customers to point it out for repair. Otherwise, Ford will just assume everything is going grand down at the plant.

My Grandpa worked at the Cleveland stamping plant, making the world famous 351 Cleveland. He was a troubleshooter, so believe me, when Ford has an issue (at least with their engines back in the 60-80s) changes were made at the plant.

Ended up having a "conditional approval" by Ford, they requested the service manager check other Mustangs for similar ripples in the trim. So we walked the lot and didn't see any others with the ripples, and they're going to be warrantied. The service manager and I talked quite a bit. I showed him some panel gaps, which he said Ford would say are in spec, but he'd see what he can do. I also mentioned rattles, he said he'd also look into them. So far he seems to be a good service manager.
