Stay away from the track!!! If your on stock shafts . I have long tubes, tune cold air BMR links and cradle lockout kit. Driverside broke when I shifted into 2nd. BANG!!!. On a worn out Nitto invo lowered the pressure to 24lbs. Even with the BMR links and cradle it still wheel hopped. Got out of it in 1st nailed in to the floor in second and that's all she wrote. I've ask questions, I've read peoples experiences with theses have shafts and not once did I read anyone breaking a halfshaft on a street tire. I b damn if Im not the first smh. Word of advice, if u have a 6 speed with stock shafts with a more power then stock.... Don't get on the track. Built ford tough my ass. Gonna buy another stock one until I can save and get a pair of DSS. On a street tire unbelivable smh. So pissed. I bought the BMR cradle and links to prevent the hop smh. It works ok on the street but at the track..... not so much.

Ouch, tough break man. This is my concern too. I'm heading to the track this weekend. All stock on stock tires. I did install the BMR cradle lockout kit to help with the wheel hop. I'm running an auto and considering keeping TC on to help. I'm driving there alone and hope to drive it home too.

Sorry to hear about that. I had a similar experience with Drag radials. I picked up a set of takeoff axles on ebay for 75 bucks shipped.

Wheel hop on radials is brutal on axles and shafts. A stronger set is safe insurance for sure. But I think over all this "super 8.8", as engineers called it, has held up quite well so far.

OP, buy the stronger half shafts. It'll be cheaper in the long run if you plan to keep racing (or even driving aggressively on the street).

I feel for you manual shift guys. Only advice I could offer is if you feel it hopping get out of it fast. But I'm hearing by the time you feel it. It's sometimes to late!

Can a broken halfshaft cause other problems?

Like what? If the car wheel hops, the run is probably lost anyway, so not really a need to go back into it, especially stab it like that in 2nd.

Other problems can include but are not limited to:
Lack of confidence, public humiliation, not having a ride home, bladder leakage, empty wallet syndrome, difficulty swallowing your pride, heartbreak, frequent rejection, hair loss and no longer being attractive to the opposite sex.
If these symptoms continue please see a specialist.

The axle stub could definitely hit and damage something when it fails. Make sure the shop doing the repair gives it a good inspection.

Anything in particular to look for that tends to break when the halfshafts break?

Hey robmustang, we met in Rockingham, I have the silver 15 with a TVS. Really sorry about your luck, felt terrible for you. I hope you get her back together and head back out to Rockingham. Get the DSS axles and a set of Welds, shouldn't have any more issues.

I do believe the issue is almost limited to the mt82 cars. I have an auto, made 7 pass's with well over 600whp on 20" heavy wheels/tires, cutting 1.6-1.7's on the same night. I also have BMR cradle & diff bushings, toe rods, and vertical links, no wheel hop or any other issues.
