Why don't people just muffler delete? I have seen a few videos on youtube and read a couple guys doing it, but I swear read more people saying they are looking for great sound but don't want to spend to much or their not sure about which route to go yet. I decided to take my car to the local exhaust shop and had the guy remove the mufflers replace it with pipe and some black tips; it cost me $200 and it looks great and sounds really good!! It is definatly louder then I had expected but sounds really mean. There is minimal drone from 1800-1900 other than that there is none. Listen guys if you are unsure of which exhaust to get but your itching to just put a mod on the car that will make the car sound super mean, look a little better, and is very cost effective just get rid of the mufflers. Sorry for the run ons just wanted to give some insight. Hope this helps someone.

Where you live maybe.

In VA the pipes have to go over the rear axel and no removing the CATS in certain areas with emissions.

Mufflers and resonators do nothing for emissions so unless you live in a area with noise regulations you're good to go.

Emission laws = Don't mess with cats

Noise laws = stick with touring axelbacks

Everywhere else = go crazy

Sometimes muffler deletes aren't even that loud.. Just deleting the muffler won't make it super loud. My atak is probably louder than most muffler deletes out there. And I don't think deletes even have a good sound to em

To add some simple Google searching brings up.

Hamilton, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson, or Wilson County are the only counties that test Emissions in TN. Anywhere else just cut off the exhaust and run some turn downs at the headers lol

I didn't look up noise ordinance or anything extra but modifying your exhaust is far from illegal if you know your local regulations.

You really want to try and educate me on the laws of my own county/state? Funny thing is, I actually worked for Envirotest, the company that administered the emissions tests in the five counties you listed, so I know the laws.

Tennessee Code Annotated, 55-9-202 states:

Mufflers Muffler cutouts prohibited Penalty.

(a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle on any road, street or highway unless the motor vehicle is equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise and annoying smoke.

(b) It is unlawful to use a “muffler cutout” on any motor vehicle upon any road, street or highway.

(c) A violation of this section is a Class C misdemeanor.

[Acts 1931, ch. 82, § 14; C. Supp. 1950, § 2700.15 (Williams, § 2694); T.C.A. (orig. ed.), § 59-902; Acts 1989, ch. 591, § 113.]

If it's the law in TN, I can almost guarantee you an even stricter law is on the books in CA; the most heavily regulated state in the country.

It's people like you, who go around offering advice to people when you are ignorant of the law, that need to be avoided.

Just saying don't say it's illegal with a blanket statement when different states and counties have different laws. Calm down. Wooosahhhhh

I was wrong about cutting the exhaust BUT a catback or axelback or even a bullet muffler welded in would still be legal in TN.

A large problem with that thinking is that on the 2015 the resonator restricts a lot of potential sound. On top of that it adds some uneeded weight. Cat-backs in my opinion help by relieving that weight while adding a great afternarket sound at the same time.
