I have a V6 AT, that has just started rattling when I am in sport mode and engine braking. It's only noticeable when in 2nd or 1st gear, but that may be because the road noise dies away enough at that point. This was in the computer controlled sport mode, not paddles although I doubt it would make a difference.

I noticed it the other day, and it seemed to be getting worse as the day went on. No problems in drive, so I'm just keeping it there until I get it in to the dealer this week.

I just got some video up. It's bad visuals, but you can def hear it, especially when the camera is outside. It did take me a few seconds to get it to make the noise again...

It pops up at 0:07, 0:14, 0:24, 0:52, 0:58, and 1:02...

Anyone else having this sort of problem? I ran a couple searches but nothing came up.

I brought her in this afternoon, and they are keeping her overnight to try to figure it out. The good part is that when the mech and I went for a drive we were able to duplicate the noise. And yes, it still seems to be getting worse.

I got a free rental - a Ford Escape. Yippee. I felt 10 years older driving that around. Glad I only have to drive it to work tomorrow, then back to the dealer. If it takes longer than that the rental is gonna get parked and I'll drive my G6.

Glad they were able to replicate, and get you in a rental. Let me know how it goes.

Well, good news and bad news.

Good news is that there is nothing wrong with my transmission (besides the clunk going into gear that they claimed was normal).

Bad news is that the rattling noise I hear is from slag in one of my exhaust pipes rattling around. This is from when I had helmholz resonators put on to kill the drone of my flowmaster axle-backs. Of course, I figured when it was at the muffler shop, they may as well go ahead and weld them on instead of just relying on the clamps. Nuts! Not sure what I can do to get it out.

Ugly John,

Thanks for this video!! Mine started today (or at least it became noticeable today.) Same EXACT sound as yours. I have the V6 Convertible. I scheduled service tomorrow. The car drives great otherwise but I hear it more in Sport mode when cruising around 2000 rpm.

Side note: I also get that clunk when changing gears too. I told them about it. Its such an unpleasant sound.

Two questions for you: What exhaust did you end up getting? Did you put a X or H pipe on it?

What octane gasoline do you put in yours 89 or 93? I always used to put 93 in my Lexus before trading it in for this. The dealer told me 89, but I've been reading that 93 puts out a little more kick.

I know I hijacked the OP. You can PM me the answers.

I'd forgotten about this thread. It turned out that the rattle was actually coming from the resonator box. They are backordered, so it still rattles.

Lots of people seem to have the clank going on, but I haven't heard of anyone getting it completely fixed.

I went back to the stock muffler because I just couldn't stand the drone. A nice side effect of going stock was the rattle decreased considerably.

I always run regular 87, but I'm going to get a tune, and let the guy put her on a dyno so that he can document the gains he is able to get. He wants me to run 93 when we get it scheduled as he gets larger gains that way. I've run 93 before, and saw a bit better mileage, but didn't really notice more power.

I'm going to get both 87 and 93 octane tunes so I can swtich back and forth as needed.
