apparently the license key is tied to sync3 ID/VIN, there goes that dream..

First off, generally on the autoinstall.lst file the ItemX = will be the base name of the tarball.
For example, on yours:
Item2 = JR3T-14G421-CB

I don't know where "License", "Maps", etc. came from on your Item names.

If somebody tried to make their own file on that _85741 thing, it won't work because the file verification fails. Any modifications to the update files would require a new checksum to verify it. The only way to generate that checksum is to know the private key owned by FoMoCo. Without this security measure any joker could create malicious software to install on a Ford with Sync 3.

The VIN shouldn't have anything to do with it.

I will save you some time... NA Map licenses are still ESN restricted of the Sync 3 unit... also that one particular license file you have is DEV signed which unless you have a Sync 3 developer unit from Ford... it isn't going to work either... The EU map license you see in forums so much is signed with the regular Sync 3 certificate and is not ESN restricted. Which is why some EU folks have been updating their maps. I would like to see Ford give USA Sync 3 owners free maps as well, but currently that is not the case. Heck we can buy $100 Garmin units with lifetime map updates but we can by expensive vehicles with a $700 navigation addon and still don't have new maps haha.

"Better" is a relative term. ;)

More conventional, yes, but there's a 1:14,000,000,000,000 chance that you'll stumble onto the correct checksum to get past the restrictions Dan mentions above.

while it doesn't encompass everything going on, you're essentially hoping to break sha256 encryption.

I have the dreaded WiFi pop up when I look updates to the other versions, nothing pops up, how to I update to a more stable version? If someone can pm me, I don’t want to get any one in trouble, thank you.

The safe way to ask is: "I know Ford doesn't like us to use bootleg copies, so can someone tell me which downloads to avoid?"
