Hey guys, new to the forum. I recently joined as I'm in the market for new car and have been eyeing a PP1 or PP2 GT when I recently came across an issue on youtube where many people are experiencing tranny failures with less than 10K miles due to the "new" cast aluminum shift forks Fords decided to transition to on the 2018 MT82's. Has anyone heard or experienced this as being a major cause for concern which would lean me towards ordering a 19' with the hope that Ford resolves the issue by those builds? Thx.

Chances are the 2019 will be the same. I am not familiar with the issue but I doubt Ford will update the trans for 2019. If you are concerned go with the auto. It's so much better than the 6 speed.

in my opinion if going manual save money and go 15-17. perhaps find something already modded or boosted.

Ive been seeing a lot of them fail too. I talked to ben calimer and he said each gear has its own fork now as opposed to the 15-17 MT82 that had 1-2,3-4, etc forks.

With all the problems with 2018’s, I would suggest getting a low mile 15-17 or hold out for a 2019 IF the issues are fixed.

its a conspiracy to move folks off of the manual trans by building cheap internals and crappy clutch's...

How does ford keep clowning this up so bad. A 6 speed transmission should not be that difficult to design and/or be that expensive to make last through a lot of abuse.

What's particularly impressive is that they willfully made this change. What was wrong with the old ones?

The TR3160 trans should have replaced the MT82 for 2018.

What ever happened to "If it ain't broke don't fix it"? I swear that car mfrs do some of the stupidest things. They were probably trying to save a few ounces and a few dollars.

choosing manual isn't for financial reasons, I'm just a manual guy. haven't owned an auto since the 90's and would like to track the car occasionally. I guess we'll see what Ford does here by the start of the 19' productions in July.

this comment makes sense. more $ for Ford sales and easier to streamline the supply chain and production process. just hope it's not true.

Never thought I’d say this but I’m glad I have a 2017 MT82. Lol.

^ Same, but of the 2016 variety. This thing is a solid work horse, and I have only missed a gear twice that I can recall. And I am shifting at about 7,800 rpm.
