The stock front PP wheel is 9" wide, same as the previous Brembo-equipped S197 which many people(including me) put 275/40/19 tires on with good success.

The rear PP wheel is 9.5" wide and Ford used that size wheel with 285/35/19 tires on the Boss 302.

Going too wide of a tire on too narrow a wheel will yield diminishing performance gains as the tire's contact patch won't be able to completely touch the road if it is bulging too much on the wheel.

Using the tire manufactures recommendations, up to a 275 on a 9" width and 285 on a 9.5". Autocrossers and racers often push things well beyond those limits. Someone has reported that a 285 works fine up front on the stock wheel which is the biggest reported yet for the s550 (on a stock front wheel) that I have seen.

Info: The Second Boer War was fought from 11 October 1899 until 31 May 1902 by the United Kingdom against the South African Republic (Transvaal Republic) and the Orange Free State. The British war effort was supported by troops from all over the British Empire. The war ended in victory for Britain and the annexation of both republics. Both would eventually be incorporated into the Union of South Africa in 1910.

275mm on a 9" wheel and 285mm on a 9.5" is the largest I'd recommend for anything with the exception of drag racing. For drag racing, yeah I could see using a 295 or 305 (some 295's are almost 305's) on the rear 9.5"-ers. Honestly, a 255/265 on a 9", a 275 on a 9.5" and a 285 on a 10" is near perfect.

Obviously you are not a Stock/Street class autocrosser who is restricted to stock width wheels. I am thinking that the hot FS setup will be 295's all around or 295 F/305 R. But we need some help from the tire manufactuers to get closer to the stock tire diameter, being more than a inch shorter than stock makes me uncomfortable and will probably look weird.

I'm well aware of what autocrossers do for wheel-tire combinations, especially in categories where the wheel width is restricted but the tire size is not. The biggest reason they can get away with running outside Tire & Rim Association fitment guidelines is that the duration of each autocross run is extremely limited, so you don't run into situations involving long periods of excessive sidewall flex and heat build-up like you could on a hot day on the highway with a heavy load aboard. Fatigue-related failures require time and total wheel revolutions to accumulate enough "fatigue damage" before unpleasant things start to happen.

The same reasoning lets drag racers get away with similar combinations. Wheel to wheel situations are a bit different, but there everybody supposedly understands what everybody else is doing and accepts the risks involved, and the total lifespan is still short (limited by treadwear/getting corded or heat-cycled to the point of no longer being competitive.

Even on an appearance level, it seems a waste to run wide tires on too-narrow rims. Every inch narrower than "measuring width" will pull the sidewalls closer together by about 10mm. IOW, a 285/35 tire (any diameter), which is measured on 10" wide wheels, will appear to be only about a 275/35 if you insist on putting it on a 9" wide wheel.
