Yep. I broke a windshield that way (not a Mustang.) I told the glass guy who came to replace it and he pulled a ballpoint pen out of his pocket and ran it along the crack. Sure enough it caught at one point and upon close inspection there was a tiny little rock chip there.

My noise came back after the Teflon lube, so I sprayed them down in WD40 and the noise has been gone for more than a week now.
