I think you need to use the left on the right and vise-versa . The flair end that has the "L" on it , the tape has a FLAT section I think this will fit nicely towards the front so you can get the flair all the way down to the side skirt , cut the "L" with the hole in it off flush ...

Its very possible , your tensioner sits on the plate if the tensioner is just floating and your chain is slacking your cam sensor will see "camshaft out of time" depending which side is out it could be bank 1 (pass side) or bank 2 (driver side)

There are 4 timing chain tensioners , 2 of them had thin metal u shaped plates under them that are no longer used in production (the metal plates) They appear to be thin metal like his
