They are a two piece system. The vents themselves go on the outside and then an outer ring (shape on the vent) goes on the bottom side of the hood. They basically clamp onto the hood.

I still have the stock airbox paired up with a Mishi Intake Tube, and I do get more "rawr" intake noises. Not a lot, but I also deleted the sound resonator on the intake just before the air box.
