They quoted me over 5k for a complete system upgrade to concert hall quality. With a pretty loud exhaust note, this upgrade sounds good to me! LOL. Good luck!
I also have the 400A system. I just had a JL Stealthbox installed in the trunk and a JL 600 watt sub amp under the drivers seat with a volume knob inside the center console. I'm so happy with it as is, I'm not going any further! Total stealth! Cost with labor was $1700.:coolphotos:
I had an audio shop do mine under the drivers seat. It's a JL sub amp, 600 watts. They attached it firmly to the carpet so as not to do any drilling. It just barely clears the power seat and very lightly touches the seat bracket as it slides by. I don't move the seat often anyways. It's...
I was in the same situation as you with the 9 speaker system. I put a 12 inch JL Audio Stealthbox sub in the trunk and a 600 watt sub amp under the drivers seat. It makes all the other factory speakers sound good plus pounds hard with the base. I personally don't need to upgrade the rest of it.
I also grew tired of the crappy 9 speaker premium sound. Not cheap but I put a JL Stealthbox sub in the trunk and a 600 watt sub amp under the drivers seat. Didn't touch any existing speakers or the head unit. The difference is unbelievable! And I lost zero trunk space!
JL Stealthbox in the trunk. 600 watt JL sub amp under the drivers seat. Sub volume control knob inside the center console. Total stealth! (No photo of the amp possible).
It's even worse if you don't have the sub at all with the 400A group! That "premium" 9 speaker system is worse than a Toyota! It's like a new car after adding a good sub and amp!
You might not say this after you hear mine. Personally I think it is a result of low quality components which is obviously done to cut costs. See you tomorrow!
I'm running a 600 watt JL amp and Stealthbox subwoofer for a month now with no issues. The battery was disconnected during the install. It might take a few miles for the computer module to recalibrate after a disconnect but you barely notice it.
Most people use an opening on the passenger side door with a rubber grommet over it. Look through some of the "complete installation" posts here and they will show where it is.
I just had this installed on 4/14/16 with a 600 watt JL sub amp. I am very happy with how much sound this thing puts out. It even makes the 9 other speakers sound better to me! But like everyone says, you pay dearly to save on space and appearance. My amp is mounted under the driver seat.
I just had a new JL subwoofer and 600 watt amp installed by a local audio shop. Two people on another forum told me the power supply wire is installed improperly. It's connected to the right main terminal under the fuse box with a nice, clean, neat connection. I'm being told it should be...
I know this is old but thanks for the heads up on the loose grill cover! My shop assured me it wasn't loose as it fell off into my hand! They were able to fix it before I left. Been on solid ever since. :clap2:
Don't feel bad. I have the 400A system and got a quote of over 5K for a complete system upgrade! I ended up having them do just a JL Stealthbox subwoofer install with a 600 watt sub amp. This still cost me $1600. but they did an awesome job and I'm happy with the results. See my post below.
