That's why I was so surprised on how they felt... the MP4S were brand new (ran them on Sunday) and the Cup 2's on Saturday were used on a previous track day. I agree with "The performance of the Cup2 over PS4S is probably greater than the improvement of the carbon wheels." Just surprised that...
Getting a vendor to help fix the wheel was a hassle, but Carbon Revolutions referred me to Spyder. I did get my wheel back and had it on the track this past weekend. (Keep in mind, my CF wheels never lost air while on track while hot; they lost air when sitting for weeks cold). Kudos to CR...
*Update:
I received my repaired wheel from Spyder Composites and mounted my street tires (MP4S) last month. It's holding air and appears to be fixed successfully.
Had a track day @ VIR this past weekend. Day 2 was rain so I ran the CF wheels with MP4S for the first session - weather driwd up...
I was quoted $200-$400... Still waiting to get an update from last week. I spent $200 to ship it Fed Ex Ground with $4k insurance. (Was hoping Fed Ex lost the wheel...haha)
*Edit, $623 was the cost.
Just a quick update, I was able to ship my wheel out to Frank last week... he is working on it now - injected some epoxy yesterday and hopes to have it wrapped up by Friday.
The ZL1 1LE is a bad machine! Congrats!
A friend of mine picked one up and it is a beast. A ton of power. I'll have to disagree on the ride quality though. It is absolutely horrible on anything but perfectly flat pavement. No way to soften up the ride either. I've heard those comments from...
I have deep grooves in my carbon wheels (front)... The lack of clearance catches rubber on the caliper, which then catches rocks and debris.
Also had one of my CF wheels leak air and was denied a warranty claim by Ford (made a post here about it). Plan is to send the wheel off for a potential...
Update - Frank at Spyder Composites will try to fix it. I need to ship the wheel to them so they can x-ray for an accurate diagnosis.
I'll keep y'all posted on developments. (Wheel won't be shipped out until next week @ the earliest).
Thanks Tomster, I was referred to Frank @ Spyder by CR. I'll see what the wheel looks like after the tire is dismounted. Hopefully it can be repaired and I can use them at least in the street.
For closure to this thread, Ford - after additional pics declined the claim based on pictures of the wheel.
I'll see if I can make a nice pub table or coffee table out of the wheel... I guess I've turned bitter.
Had a convo with CR tobight, and I'm super impressed with their C/S and follow...
Wheels look great Paul!
Very hard to take pictures of them as they just don't do the color justice. Must be seen in person... I can see why you recommended the color when I picked up my BC Forged.
The wheels were swapped using the Hunter Touchless Machine. Dealer and independent shop. I don't believe that is what caused the failure or damage.
I've inspected my wheels and don't see anything with the other wheels. (Except that both front wheels have scratches / gouges in the coating...
I've had 3 sets of Cup 2's on the car... Used the dealer for one swap and an independant shop for the last go round. Hard to put the blame on anyone after the fact. The dealer wasn't able to do it the 2nd time around since they used their Hunter rep - they don't have the eqpmt on site.
With...
Wow,
I would really appreciate that, I would be interested in the blemished wheel as they are obviously my track set up.
Even if Ford approved my warranty claim, my concern was how fast I would be able to get a replacement. I was told they are on back-order and all production is going towards...
Not sure if this pic is coming through...
It's a discolored spot the size of a dime? It's not indented, pretty flat to the touch, but has some fiber/resin that seems to be poking up (if that makes sense). I asked Carbon Revolutions if I should dismount the tire to see whats on the other side...
Thanks, I appreciate the offer. I have a set of BC Forged wheels (square set up) and already have a front set of 25mm spacers.
I have a set of Apex wheels and NT01 tires that I'm coordinating picking up in VA in the next couple of weeks so I should be all set for June 25/26.
