Hit a few fragments with a magnet as suggested, didn't try them all as I might need that strainer to help my case for a new trans under warranty in the future. They are a combination of ferrous and non ferrous material. I didn't realize the manual had an internal magnet, my plan was to order the...
Figured I'd post an update for anyone else with a similar noise.
Finally got a chance to change the trans fluid today and found metal contamination after draining it through a paint strainer. Refilled with Motul DCTF and noise still persists but didn't seem as loud. However as the weather has...
2020 GT MT82 with Roush 2650 and LTH on the stock Roush tune. It was a busy dyno day that got stared late after issues with the dyno so I never got to ask them about the dips in torque. My guess is interference with the tach signal 🤷♂️
Thanks for the info, curious if you have a short throw shifter? While I can see my particular noise being low speed gear rollover noise I'm not lugging at 1900 in 4th. Ford want's me in 5th already for best fuel economy 😂. I did order Motul DCTF as it meets Ford's spec but It will be a few weeks...
If the dealer doesn't want to touch it call the Ford customer service number and have a case started so if it does fail shortly after warranty it's already documented at the corporate level would be my suggestion.
I don't blame you for pushing Ford I would as well if I were almost out of warranty. The shop forman from my local dealer said his gut was the flywheel as he has heard them make some strange noises. He also said step one would be drain the fluid and check for metal. Please let me know the end...
@NGOT8R FWIW ChatGPT agrees with you on rollover noise. @cerbomark I think I'll change the fluid and see if it helps. Would rather not have Ford open it up and poke around unless absolutely needed. Thanks for the help.
From ChatGPT:
Yes — gear rollover is common on the MT82-D4 (the 2018+...
Have not changed the fluid yet, I'll do that in spring if I decide not to have the dealer tear it down yet. The noise doesn't go away with pressure on the shifter but I wonder if the noise is being amplified by the MGW shifter? That's why I've been asking others with the noise if they also have...
From what my dealer said sounds like Ford does everything in their power not to warranty. They said guaranteed Ford will want pics of the tires and inner quarter panels to look for abuse. They said they have seen them go as far as checking YouTube checking for the car on a track.....
Do you also have a trans mounted shifter? I had my local dealer listen to my video and they suspect flywheel or input shaft. They also informed me the clutch is not considered a powertrain item and is not a warranty item after 3/36. I'm torn if I should let them tear it down or ride it and see...
Hardwired my battery tender leads. The plastic on the ring terminal interfered with using the power cable going into the fuse box so I it ran through the red rubber cover on the positive terminal. After that it was bath time.
Since I bought my car I've have a low rpm low drivetrain load noise. I purchased it out of state as a certified pre-owned so I still have a powertrain warranty. All the mods currently done were already on the car so it probably shouldn't have been certified by the dealer but they did so good for...
