This is exactly what happened to my OEM lug nuts. I ended up sanding a few of them down when they got "swollen".

I'd recommend 275/40R18 or 295/35R18 for tires. A 295mm section is slightly oversized for a 10" wide rim, but it should fit with no issues. Hardly anybody makes tires in 285/40R18 and 285/35R18 makes the entire wheel look a little small.
