I have a hard time believing Ford is taking a bath on this engine, and the only problem is the OPG. That would be just too easy to not address immediately in all build. They haven't upgraded the OPG. I was told the engine spun a main bearing (again, uncorroborated supposition of tech).
Here is the deal though. I never launch. Maybe got a bit higher BRIEFLY in the RPM range than I should have one or two times during break-in. Got oil changed at 800 miles. At 2200 I thought it was trackable. Wet Texas day, around 80, didn't know the car or track (in the rain!), so I was going...
My dealership just got back to me regarding my rear axle. They say it is the boot and the part is on backorder until JULY 1!...I recommended they replace the whole right unit, because 5 weeks?!
Well, I happened to be in the market for that school so figured I'd take the initiative and call them this morning. Everything is sold out, FYI...I did ask, incidentally, if they were experiencing any amount of engine failures and without missing a beat, the rep said "no, and we run them very...
As they are keeping the data close to their chest, they are also not improving the engines (or so it seems). So, unless I have any reason to believe otherwise, whatever engine replacements are going to be no different in design or engineering.
What I want to hear from Ford is "we fixed that...
Ford is taking a bath on this engine. I'm just in the process of having a heart-to-heart with my dealership GM about the blown engine, which cost me two track days, the blown rear CV, the paint flaws, and the time they have had it in the shop v the time I have actually had the car...not to...
At that rate the car is a liability to both Ford and the customer outside of warranty for any reason. The internal cost to Ford is $34,000? So what does that add up to for a customer paying for it? Not confidence inspiring.
I was actually thinking about slowly building a spare engine and...
I suppose a percentage in this forum population with blown engines would be a good representation ballpark, if you extrapolate out to the number of units sold.
2300 miles, tech assumed it was a main bearing, but Ford told them not to split the case...Had a thread about it to document it, but some troll decided to piss all over it and got it closed.
If that drive home is on a fresh engine, I'd recommend spending at least the first 500 miles on side roads, rowing through the gears. Normal break in procedure...Definitely not on the highway.
