Update: Car drives great; loving it more and more each day.
Next up in a few months:
-Steeda FLCA bearings + adjustable steeda front control arms.
-Steeda camber plates
-Steeda Rear camber adjustment
-Wider wheels and stickier tires
I used the BK051 (without the upgraded bolts) and I have differential whine from about 55-62mph in the form of a continuous low whistle when I'm on the throttle.
It can get annoying, but I don't usually stay at that speed range for very long unless I'm in traffic. (too fast for neighborhood...
Just wanted to give another update after another 400 miles on the car...
1) Differential whine is noticeable at between 55-62ish mph and non-existent at other speeds.
2) Shift clunks/thunks at low gear changes/ momentum shifts at low speeds (annoying)
3) Low speed clicking/ metallic clonking...
Mine is directly related to shifting at low speeds; 1st to 2nd, 2nd down to 1st, etc. The sound doesn't happen when going over bumps, curbs, or road imperfections.
I have some low speed clunking and my suspension parts list included the shock mounts...how can I tell whether the low speed clunking is related to shock mounts vs "driveline slop" or "shift shock"?
A little more driving since adjusting the brake dust plate and I just wanted to reiterate how happy I am with the way the car handles now.
And other big shout-out to TFB Performance for doing great work on the installation and answering my panicked emails lol :)
Yeah, the ride is extremely tight and flat going into corners and very stable at higher speeds. The ride quality over bumps and imperfections is well sorted though, and about as well-damped as my stock non-PP setup, so I'm extremely happy. The poly-diff lockout from BMR is good enough without...
Welp, it was the dust shield, just like you said! I drove back and they figured it out pretty quickly.
The whistling sound IS the differential and it's only audible within a very narrow rpm band. I can consistently cause it to whistle if I stay at 55-60ish mph (in 6th), and it disappears every...
Took it out again to listen closely. It's definitely some kind of a "screech" sound, metallic. It starts up at low speeds, a couple of times it started right after the car shifted from 1st to second, and when I was pulling into my driveway, turning left seemed to initiate it. Now that I think...
I was just driving along and it started right after I made a right turn. It wasn't continuous, but came back several times in the next few blocks and again right as I turned into the parking lot.
Ok this is not inspiring confidence.
I drove the car to my kids school for an event earlier and toward the end of literally a 7 minute drive, I started hearing a sort of high pitched squeal/ grinding type noise. I don't think it's brakes but can't really tell whether it's coming from the front...
