My thoughts on the topic of the various ticks after reading through hundreds of posts:
1. It's a fundamental design problem that is exacerbated by production tolerances. This is why some cars do it and others do not.
2. Some people are more sensitive to noises than others. So enthusiasts like...
Get the media involved. It's the only way of getting to the bottom of this problem. Hit Ford in the wallet where it will impact sales of one of the most iconic automobiles ever.
First I would get Jalopnik involved.
Next, I would reach out to the guy who exposed the Focus head gasket problems...
Ahh, so thank you. I am in the wrong thread as I mixed up my ticks.. I'm referring to the supposed piston slap noise. Thank you for schooling me. Either way, this should be taken care of and I believe Ford knows full well what the causes are for both of them. People need to organize with the F...
I've owned a number of Fords and my experience is that Ford's robots still can't apply seam sealer correctly. My 03 Mustang used to get water in the foot wells behind the driver and passenger seat. Dealer was useless. I finally pulled the seats and carpet and ran a hose over the car, a vert BTW...
I'm shopping and I've seen a few like that. Low mileage, well optioned 2018 cars at dealers. Unusual in my experience. Don't see this in the Camaro or Vette world, my other bucket list of cars.
Dumb question, but,,,,, did you re-install the calipers so that the bleeder screw is on the top? On some cars it's possible to mix up the left and right calipers and install them with the bleeder screw on the bottom and if you do, you will never be able to bleed the brakes properly. Just tossing...
My 28yo daughter drives like a maniac and her first car, a 2003 Jetta, lived on jack stands in my driveway. Everything from normal PM to a new motor. A couple of years ago she bought a Honda Civic, loaded to the gills with options.... I haven't seen the car broken yet. If she can't destroy it...
Don't have a horse in this race, I drive an 03 GT vert, but since I'm shopping for a new car I have been reading all the forums. From what I'm seeing, our Camaro friends are also having troubles of their own. I'm not tossing spears but just just saying...
Since it started after you had guages installed I would hunt around for a loose, unplugged connector. Check the MAF sensor and around any area where the tech had to touch in order to gain access for the gauges. You might want to bring it back to the installer and let them know you started...
Yea, the Focus debacle was a big one. From what I've read, it took one guy who made a stink, documented the failure and blasted it on the net to prompt Ford to finally admit the problem and offer a fix. And you can can bet Ford is doing the same thing with other systemic failures. They are no...
When I was in college back in the dark ages, the 1980's, I asked an engineering professor why the auto manufacturers didn't just install the "mother of them all" wiring harness in every single car instead of specific harnesses for each car depending upon options ordered. My argument was it was...
Maybe I'm naive but I've built my share of motors and the only reason I can see for going for a short block is overall cost to the manufacturer.
If this were my company, an exploded motor should be replaced with a completely new motor. For one, the consumer is not getting the level of checks...
Warranties were horrible back in the 70's. Most were 1 year 12k miles and only the basics were covered.
These days, for the average consumer, the hood might as well be welded shut.
