I wouldn't worry too much about it. Under the right circumstances I'll sometimes downshift instead of using the brakes and *knock on wood* the perfect idiot has so far failed to rear-end me.

I did the same thing back in 2000 when I bought my first new car, a GT vert. I went 3,000 miles in 3 weeks, all with the top down (gotta love Texas in March). This time around I'm older and a bit more laid back. Not a lot of miles, but I LOVE driving it!
