I used flat head bolts and drilled the holes on the inside of the can. lined the bottom in foam. the only way to remove it was to open it.

True, but I found going on a diet reduces more weight than the 3 lb trunk tire cover. I dont like putting stuff inside my car so stuff like my computer backpack goes in the trunk. the matrial of the backpack tends to stick to the carpet material on that cover so that makes the covers movment...

This Trunk Mat / Spare tire cover is driving me nuts, it's sliding all over the trunk so I picked up some push button latches, and designed a soulution, I found them on Amazon. I had to make some brakets out of aluminum to support the latch pin. it works great.
