What I learned: Clutch Replacment (NO LIFT)

Did this help with the engagement point? I have a 17 and the engange is like the last inch. So much so that I'll think I'm still like 80% in the slipping zone and go to let finish letting it out just to realize my foot was just touching it and it was fully released. Doesent take much of a touch to push it and have the revs climb without power being transfered. It's so high I'm actually shocked it's not permanent engaged or at least partially engaged. I know the clutch has a cheap aftermarket adjuster option (ram thing) but I wonder if a clutch helps. Mine slams into engagement when shifting so I've been debating replacing it just to see what happens to see if it's my shifting or just shitty mt82 clutch things.

Ha, this is making me chuckle because it’s such common experience for me. When I’m trying to be super deliberate and slow with the clutch I often go ok time to lift off fully! And it’s already fully released and foots just resting on it lol

I just finished doing a clutch relearn for my 2015 after installing a Mcleod RXT twin disc ceramic clutch with aluminum flywheel so now the car can stop the random misfires, I used my new Mucar scan tool to open the PCM to be able to learn what changes have been made and recognize the difference in rotational mass. I took the car out for a good hard run and got home with zero codes. I spent $479.00 for the scanner, and it was well worth it to me. I was at the point of taking the car to a shop to have it done because I had done all that I knew how to do. With the scanner and the help of AI, I was able to open a new door of technology and correct an issue that I didn't even understand until now. I am 74 and still learning. Now I can get on with the data log for the last tune update.

I am 24 and the thought of having to use a scanner to reprogram a car after changing a clutch and flywheel is ridiculous. But i guess thats the cost of modern cars.

Just want to add for anyone else. I decided to tackle this job myself. Putting the trans back in today hopefully, would like any tips for that.

I would use half inch extensions on the top exhaust nut. I do not wish I would have payed anyone at this point. Ive spent ~$579 on 6 ton stands a 3 ton jack and a garvee trans jack from amazon after being quoted $900-1000 +hiddens for a shop to do it. If I can sell the one time use 6 tons for $100 (easy) on marketplace I'll do really good. Maybe even sell the jack. I just dont have the space or need for big stands after this job.

The hardest part honestly was removing the wiring harness from atop the trans .. Only regret is scraping the very bottom of the front bumper of my other car pulling into the autozone to return a tool. You still have to be mechanically inclined to do this safely and not damage/strip anything. stripping a trans bolt or that catalyic converter bolt could mechanically total the car.

Agreed…one of my cat bolts stripped, but just lightly enough that a thread chaser fixed it.

my biggest problem was getting the trans off the bell housing…one of the dowel pins had rusted itself to both the block and trans case!

that and the dam vent tube is in a very particular spot that requires smaller hands than I currently have
