I was hoping there were some performance metrics than could be referenced. I have not seen any durability issues from the oem impeller. What that material is, I'm unsure exactly. Calling it plastic would be akin to calling an aluminum unit metal. One could assume metal is better than plastic but we don't know for sure which material has the advantage in this application.
this forum has a thread or two on OEM water pump issues. One member's impeller broke into pieces that weren't recovered.

I got a spare pump with a metal impeller after reading those. So far it is waiting its time in a garage.

I hear ya. Things happen I suppose, but put mine through more abuse than most and so do my pals. Yet to see anything outside of a seal leak. Small sample group though.

Im looking to drop my CHT's they climb up pretty quick getting above 230° after just some spirited driving in sport mode, would the gt350 water pump be a good upgrade? I currently have a reiche thermostat which helped drop the temps considerably and im using red line water wetter with about an 80-20 water to coolant ratio, some of you are reccomending the Aisin, I havent heard of that brand could someone drop a link for the s550 water pump if they have it?

Performance Pack radiator, reiche 170* thermostat, and gt350 water pump helped drop temps a bunch. When I was fbo na temps would sit around 190-200 in 100*+ heat. Even after hard long pulls temps never got much past 220. Big improvement over stock parts where I had seen temps go to 250.

Another big thing is to make sure there is no air in the system. These systems should self bleed but with my car I have found even small leaks can cause air to get stuck in the system and limit cooling capacity greatly. There is a maddox harbor freight kit to pressure test and fill the coolant system, you just need compressed air. Great kit and is a necessity imo when filling these coolant systems at home.

I bled the system by putting it on an incline and revving with the coolant cap off, I think my system never had air in it, it ran hotter by about 10 degrees ever since ford put a new engine in it under warranty, once I put the reiche and did the water wetter it helped drop it by about 20 degrees on average(10 under my original motor roughly) ill try to aisin next time I do a coolant flush, I hope it isnt too hard to change out

aisin is not the only pump with the alloy impeller fyi. just research what you buy.
