Greetings all,

I recently installed a set of Pedders camber plates to go with my Pedders coilovers that have been on the car for several years. Prior to the camber plate install, my front and rear suspension was pretty darn quiet after chasing a few noises over the years. Now that the camber plates are in, I can hear what sounds like the front springs moving around and making noise. I also get some clunking when turning at slow speed, pulling in and out of driveways, etc.

I’m not sure what changed. I followed a tutorial on one of the Mustang part sites, which was pretty darn comprehensive. The mounting bolts are tight. I tightened the nut on top of the coilover as best I could, but have now found that it doesn’t sit as low as prior to the plates and now I can’t even thread on my damper adjustment knobs on.

Any ideas? TIA

did you torque the top nuts to spec? I think its around 80ft lbs, im scared now because I am about to install them too 😅 also when you took them off did you torque down the sway bar links as well? those are around the same torque spec and need to be torqued with the car on the ground.(both need to be torqued on the ground)

also I think they say to change the coilover height by a few inches to account for the extra space the camber bolt ball bearings and plates take up, not sure if that would effect the damping issue

Thanks for the replies…. I did torque the relative bolts to spec drove it around a bit. The noise was worse, so I tightened them a bit more. The “more” fixed some of the noises. I didn’t adjust the height as I wanted to see how close it was to my prior settings. It’s probably about an inch off (higher).

As far as the sway bar bolts, I did those with the A arm/spindle jacked up to near ride height. I have adjustable links, so maybe they are too short now due to the added height of the plates??

your locking collars are secure and the spring is tight in the perch right? also I just looked it up and the top strut nut bolt its 46lb ft but I remember torquing it higher than that, let me see if I have an email from pedders with the torque sheet still
also 85lb ft for sway bar links

in my experience 99% of the time there is noise it is due to the sway bar links, can you put some pictures of the setup here?

also maybe take a crowbar/pry bar and start wedging it any place you touched, if you hear the sound you might have the culrpit

Thanks! I swear it’s the spring moving around for some reason. I hear the kind of, no kidding, “boing” type sound from the spring occasionally. Makes me think spring and perch is somehow misaligned. Everything seemed to go back together correctly, but??? I will mess with the end links some more too. The factory ones were the culprit of some noise at one point, which was one of the reasons I ditched them.

that binding noise into the tension release is loose links alot of times, the links sometimes build tension and then release it all at once when the actual bump happens or there is enough tension built up, kind of like if you took out a tie rod end slowly with a tie rod end remover, it is a slow eerie bind, then a loud slam, thats basically happening to your links everytime you turn the wheel or go over small bumps

Interesting…. I’ll tear into it this weekend and check there first. Every time I make a change, it seems to cause other issues, ugh! Thanks!

Might be way off here but, replacing an OEM part that has come "cushion" to it with an aftermarket part that is more solid will typically cause more NVH.

not that binding hes talking about, thats usually due to worn or loose components

Welp…. I figured it out. I am an idiot, but I also solved the issue. I left the large top hat washer on during install, leaving a gap between the spring and the camber plate mounting surface. Prior to the work, I watched a video covering the install of the camber plates and swear they reinstalled the washer, which is why I did. Before tearing back into the car, I watched another video and the washer was not used. I pulled them out and drove the car. Surprise! The sounds are gone!!

thats freaking crazy because I just did this job and you are correct in the video they indeed did re install the washer on there, I was going to ask you if you put the washer on there or not because that definitely would cause that issue, I took pictures earlier today when I did the job because I watched the video and remember thinking " thats not right, oh shit I bet that dude definitely just made that mistake"

either he did it wrong in the video or pedders changed the part down the road, either way im glad you figured it out, you arent dumb, you are smart for going back and figuring it out! I finished the job thankfully with no hiccups except the top strut nut bolt wont torque down, gonna need a deep socket and an allen key to torque it to that 55lb ft we talked about earlier and ill be set, after removing the parts I took a look at my strut plates and they looked just the same as this ebay listing I saw selling them, is that your listing?
