No.

It draws cool, outside air into the airbox. Removing it won’t gain anything and may cause the air charge to be warmer since it’s not getting a shot from the grill area.

The only negative effects you'll see is much higher IATs. Instead of drawing fresh air from outside, the airbox will be pulling it hot engine bay air. With that you'll lose some power.

Question is, why is your "friend" doing this?

It's like the complete opposite of adding a Velossatech! Definitely nothing but negative things can happen by removing that.

Eh.. front grill delete. Replaced with mesh. Added VelossaTech and noticed plastic duct, especially the bottom, serves zero purpose at that point since VelossaTech blocks off whatever air is being drawn from the bottom. I was more curious if that duct served a different purpose.

Anyway, not sure if it’s due to opening up the front or adding the big mouth but on a whipple tune, rpms are now surging (creeps up to 2k sometimes) while coasting in neutral until I come to a complete stop. No leaks as it idles perfectly. Extra air must be messing with maf readings.

update: rev hang issue with whipple tune causing the rpm surge while coasting. Oh well. No adverse effects otherwise.
