The formula for making a mustang fast with a budget has always been to get the lowest model v8. Doesnt need pp1/pp2. Just need the v8 motor and a10. Dont need the turbos either, just go vmp gen 3R supercharger.
I've been down this road, I'd rather get the gt500.
Money spent on mods and having to resell them or sell with entire car is a PITA knowing how much you spent + time and effort. It also costs $ to make the car look as good as a gt350/gt500.

So Ford wasted all those tens of thousands of hours wringing the prototypes' necks around tracks where they could have just put $10k or $20k worth of go-fast aftermarket bits and gone faster.
People have to justify there job every day, just like people have to justify why they bought a pig before knowing how much it weighs! I'm not sure if this was on purpose or not but the Ford spokesperson who was explaining why it's such a pig had a pig on his shirt. I kind of think he was trying to say, sorry we could only do so much but our legs where tied. Congrats to all of those who are happy with this car, it looks like it will perform well despite of its wieght!

I think WildHorse could be in high school and not done much mods. It's like the high "input" with no "output" equalization is not in his thinking. It would be like eating 3 grilled cheese with extra cheese. It is going to bottle up and explode something.

Listen, I'll be hard on the GT500 about the weight...it definitely should be lighter, even for its price, and a helluva lot lighter for a $90k+ CFTP. That said, it's gonna be stupid fast on a road course; you'd need to put in a bare minimum of $20k into a base Mustang GT to beat one, and then you have a racecar, not a road car.

If I had asked this forum a couple years back, if a 4125 lb $100,000 GT500 would be a success, I'm sure I would have been met with responses of how absurd that is.

If I had asked if the next GT500 would be a success if it was 700 lbs and 30K more than the same model year mid engined Corvette (I said 30K instead of 40K because I'm talking the Z51 which will most likely be close to if not quicker around a road course than the GT500), I would have gotten a worse response.

I'm as big a Ford fan as anyone, but this car is not a winner.

Still a bargain for what you want to do.
The GT500 isn't a racecar, like a modded GT would need to be (or close enough to make no difference) to match up. Grabbing the part of the quote that suits your argument without the context the rest of it carries is pointless.

What do you base that on?
Uh, that it's an emissions-certified road car built by Ford to be a road car, with all the attention paid to NVH, usability and reliability of a road car (and happens to be very fast on a racetrack)? What a dense thing to say.
