Im torn between buying a 2017 premium or a 2018 base. The 2017 is actually more expensive (29k with 7k miles) the 2018 is 28k with 4K miles. I’m torn due to the 2018 performance changes. It seems to be a far superior engine compared to the 2017. What say you?

for a DD i´d go with premium.

and there´s no evidence the 2018+ engine is far superior. it has more power.... But the gen2 is proven great engine with no issues, and very easy to modify.

I hear you. I just was referring to the direct injection, the upgraded heads and I believe the manual transmission has been upgraded as well. I’m not a track guy so maybe it doesn’t matter.

Just went through this same dilemma. Went with a 2017 PP Premium after six months of debate (over the winter). All the bells and whistles are completely worth it IMHO. The car has plenty of power for the streets. I installed the Ford Performance Power Pack 2 kit a few weeks ago. It really woke the car up, just gobs of torque now. The gen 2 coyote helps me sleep a little easier at night... (kidding of course).

I would personally go 2018. Longer warranty, less miles, updated parts. You can buy a new left over 18 for 29k. Hell, you can get a premium 18 gt for 30k with low miles.

I think it may depend on what deal you can get as well. The 18 is great but there are "issues" with some apparently. I was torn as well but found a 16 with 8500 miles, factory warranty and Ford performance upgrades for <30. For the full package (I also spoke with original owner, shop that did the mods etc etc) it was a no brainier at that point. Most fun I have had in a long time. Best of luck and take your time....I looked everywhere and this car showed up at a dealer 10 miles from me. The guys work truck imploded so he had to trade....

If you are going with a manual and aren't interested in the configurable instrument cluster or active exhaust, you might as well get a 2017. The 10A, active exhaust and the instrument cluster on 2018 401A cars are the primary changes. I don't care for the manual transmission gearing changes they made on the 2018s. In spite of more power, they are very little faster than a 2017.

Well. You convinced me. I had to push my budget up to 30k but I got everything I wanted. 2017 GT Premium w/performance pack. 7k miles.

Congrats! I picked up the exact same car, same color, a month ago. You’ll love it!

Thanks. I was impressed about how tame it is until you get on it and then it’s rowdy. I need to add an x pipe because the exhaust isn’t exactly as loud as I want but I love it so far.
