Just make the next car smaller, lighter, slimmer doors, lower belt-line, etc.

And give it a damn sunroof.

Make it an open, airy car.

That's the basic lines the current convertable has with the top up.

If this came out, I'm afraid I'd have to buy one. It resembles my 68 notchback very well, and I loved that style.

Trunk looks too long to me. I'm also not a fan of the 'concept' style drawings with deep dish chrome wheels tucked into the wells and the super low stance. Need to see it like it would like as a production model (which I am imagining as goofy looking).

Notch suited the foxbody way better, not a fan of it here. It mainly looks awkward because it has the wheelbase of a pickup truck in the drawing.

Yeah, open and airy, like a convertible. Wait... :)

My main issue with the Fastback is the way the roof slopes, the rear seat is cartoonishly low in head room. Like the headless horseman would have trouble back there. Were it higher, would probably have gone for the "Coupe". The proportions are off, but modernize it a bit and move the roof line back, and it could work especially for those that might want their teenagers to be able to ride in it (the leg room is there, but no the head room).

The current Mustang has curves and rounding, this is way to square and flat to blend with the rest of the car...

The original coupe had stunningly beautiful proportions and was marketed as a mini TBird. Sadly both the ‘Bird and market for it are gone so although a formal roof on the current may look good I don’t think it would sell.
The original fastback backseat folded down flat for a useable “sportdeck” and left a panel to separate the deck from the trunk which could be lowered. It gave the car a real 2+2 function which the current fastback does not convey with the simple fold down seats.
