Without going into too much detail as I know this is a public forum....

Where do you park at night? Garage/on street/ on driveway?

What about the factory alarm etc what's your initial thoughts on it?

Just curious as my Mrs is freaking out I might have to park on the driveway for a week before I get my garage.

I've got the following:
Driveway, Gated private road, Multi-face recognition security cameras on house/garage, Will get a tracker of some sort (when car comes)

I might be the exception to most people on this forum, as I also live in a quiete location in the middle of nowhere (Soon to be less quiete).

If you're worried about theft, stick your keys in a tin, or put them in your bedside drawers, away from the doorway. or wrap it in a lead cover that way the signal will never go through .

I would advise a security system of some sort if you don't have one on your house, end of the day, it's precaution and not just for your car, protects the house etc, even with a garage.

Alternativley if it's still theft you're worried about, a wheel lock, and if you've got the money, I've heard murmurings of 'remote controlled lockdowns' for cars (Which requires a fair investment, but would be hillarious to just stop a thief in the car and watch them go from 100-0 and through the windscreen, nope? just me?)

Don't all the UK models come with Thatcham security alarm as standard? So unless you are parking in a "dodgy area" I don't think you need to worry unncessarily.

I hope to keep mine in the garage but there is so much stuff in there I might not be able to squeeze it in, so it might need to live on the drive. It is in a private cul-del-sac so should be safe enough - but we keep all our car keys at the rear of the house "just in case" so no one can go "fishing" for them through the letter box and hopefully far enough away so rogues can't use a signal booster to trigger the key free entry & start...

My MG TF fits in nicely at the moment and I generally leave the roof down through most of the summer, but if I can't get my mustang in there the roof will get a lot more wear! It did seem such a good idea to put a beer fridge in there, followed by a wine fridge. So now I have to decide - does my 35K baby live outside or do I lose the chilled drinks - I don't really have anywhere else to put them, and for some reason my wife thinks the bedroom isn't a suitable location - for the car or the fridges!

Sorry I meant to say that I will have additional security features on mine. Tracker, disclock, kill switch and after market alarm.

But just wondered if I was mad parking it on a driveway in a quiet cul de sac.

Depends on the neighborhood. In my hood I would never park the mustang outside over night for any reason. On the first night we had the mustang home, at 5pm the garage door opener exploded. We scrambled and purchased a new unit and installed it finishing around 11pm.

The problem isn't people looking to steal it, the problem is jealous dickheads who would vandalize the car.

If your hood is decent you should be fine as long as the area is well lit and you keep the car covered.

Don't forget we are the opposite side of the pond from you. A mustang isn't a common site over here yet!! Lol

I was reading ZXERT 's post like 'Hood', we're british .

Quiet cul de sac you should be alright Zerocool you mention parking, however, questions arise for those of us daily driving who'll be parking at train stations, etc.

I agree with the posts above, the one thing i fear most is jealous dickheads who want to scratch the car, or do damage to it because simply they lack the ambition, dedication or mental strength to get something 'nice' in life. Even if the car 'is only 30k' it's percieved by many as a car worth way over that amount.

I've just bought a workshop/shed for all the crap so the garage is just for the car. Not so much so I can get it in but so nobody is carrying stuff in and out past the car. Ditch the fridges, you won't be drinking because you'll be driving so much :D

I am so worried about it that I have just purchased an off parking area with a gate. The great thing is. the Mrs thinks I brought it for the house that comes with it!
Thinking of fitting a tracker as well as all my company vans have them and I can get a good deal.

I've got a relatively stand out vehicle, it gets a LOT of attention, even on my drive, with young and old alike stopping, staring and taking pictures. I can't fit it in my garage due to a workbench I built when I refurbed my house a few years ago. My cars though have always sat on the drive due to the large amount of gash that accumulates throughout life.

I live in a reasonably good area, with no through road for traffic, only pedestrians and if some bellend is going to have a go at vandalising your car, there's not a lot, I, at least, could do about it. The same goes for whenever you park out shopping, at the cinema, restaurant, anywhere in fact.

I think modern cars are now very hard to steal, I understand there's a threat from keyless readers, but I'm not sure they're that common (I've never heard of anyone or heard anyone mention this type of theft or heard or read about it being reported in the papers or TV).

I've never had any bother so far :amen:

The Thatcham Security System is Category 1 which according to http://www.rac.co.uk/community/blog/rac-blog/june-2013/what-is-a-thatcham-category-car-alarm

Thatcham Category 1 – electronic alarm and immobiliser
Systems that fall into this class are the cleverest and most complex on the market. A Category 1 alarm will feature perimeter and ignition detection, and will incorporate movement or glass break and tilt sensors. There’ll also be a siren powered by its own battery supply that will sound if your car gets broken into.
Immobilisers are also a requirement to pass Category 1 tests and have to be passively set – that means without any action from the driver – while a minimum of two operating systems or one control unit used for normal operation must be isolated.

If Thatcham Category 1 is so good then my concern is why should the lead lined key fob holders even be necessary and also there is a history of thieves for various makes targeting the OBD port to program keys and and especially for the Focus ST and I expect that model was Thatcham Category 1 so is this even possible on the Mustang?

What type/size of garage are you going for, as I'm also looking at getting one for when the Mustang arrives?
