PP is a good deal but I suspect you can get better stuff if you cherry pick the aftermarket. And if you don't know what to cherry pick, just post here "what's the best aftermarket springs for my car?" and I bet you get a bunch of responses, the result of which is better than whats available in the PP.
True. If the above deal doesn't fall through that will have to be the alternative route.

I just wish I knew what changes to the 2017 model were because I suspect that Ford could possibly offer the Performance Package with an auto to keep things interesting.

You know what, I think I will tomorrow. And yes, $39,000 sounds like the perfect amount to pay for a car that has been sitting on the lot for a year, granted the car has less than 450 miles on it. If they accept, I'll fly out, then drive back in style.
offer $38, considering the 450 miles. Let them sell you back up to $39

of course, I am not in the sales business, so I need to add the following:

That's sound reasoning. After all, no dealer usually accepts a first offer unless it's in their favor and $38,000 most definantly is not. However, it's a good starting point for me.

You need a Ford insider to give you the scoop on the '17. Assuming they will. But they are probably trained to not disclose such things.

'15 is first year of a redesign (e.g. IRS), and you know what they say about first year of redesign. You take more risk. You could hedge that risk by asking even lower than 38. Depends on how bad you want PP/ Auto. If you do want that exact config, don't let on that you want it all that bad or they won't negotiate properly.

Also another idea is to search autotrader / cars.com, etc. for '15 Auto in 300 mile radius, looking for 50th anniv / PP. New or used.

That's EXACTLY what the salesman at the dealership told me. Whether or not he knew and wasn't saying or if he just was clueless I don't know. I'm sure the order form will be leaked sometime within the next 4 months.

And yeah, buying a first model of a ground up redesign is always a risk since Ford is notorious for not giving up any info on flaws in their designs and just fixes them quietly for the next model year(if at all :D).
