E85 additive to prevent guming ??

I'm curious what all of you guys add to your e85 to prevent all of the damaging ethanol effects to the whole fuel system and injectors over time. I've heard of lots of cases of guming in the fuel filter and at the tips of the injectors. Will be switching to e85 eventually.

I've run E85 exclusively in my trucks and in my "weekend" cars since 2009 or 2010 with no gumming issues. I am not even sure the issue isn't from the E85 cleaning the gasoline residue....not everyone has this issue. Maybe being up north and so cold it could be different.....

Ethanol is not damaging, that would be methanol.

Ethanol has been known to attract a lot of water when it's humid or damp outside. Not sure if the water causes the guming but I've heard of a few issues where it eventually can clog injectors tips and fuel filters. Could be the colder air , not sure

I'm not trying to convey to you that I haven't heard of what you are talking about, because of course I have probably read all the same things about it you did.

What I am trying to say is, my experience has been contradictory from those concerns and many other's have as well.

Just seeing if anyone has had to use anti water additives to prevent water build up. Have seen many cases of ethanol itself only 10% in fuel pumps causing fuel lines to deteriorate and fuel injectors to clog but that could be because of a fuel system not having stainless lines.

I can see having issues leaving it in a weed eater or lawn mower over a cold winter but not if you use the car on a regular basis. E85 sits in my C7 for weeks or a month at a time and always fires right up and no issues.

i have never ran e85 but i do plan on so i did some research and read that if you run regular gas every few fill ups it helps to clean the fuel system.

I always thought this is such a funny statement considering gasoline is filthy compared to ethanol. I think a better term would be "lubricate" rather than "clean."

Another reason why I'm trying to find out if anyone uses additives to lubricate the fuel pump and upper cylinders when using e85. E85 has no lubricating properties , maybe a minut amount

I don't even run a fuel filter with it. (E85)

To answer the OP, I occasionally use the Lucas Ethanol Treatment. Once a month or so.

It isn't much of an issue if the system is designed for it and it doesn't sit in the tank for long periods of time.

I've had many locals run E85 that we're military (long deployments etc) and lets just say fixed quite a few blown up motors from injectors that were no longer firing at full strength.

If the car is going to sit for any long length of time put 93 in it and stabilize it.

i ran lucas ethanol additive in my 2012 silveradothat i had tuned for e85. i would also run some tanks of 93 also since my computer would adjust for either.
