750 dash cam

I ignored the advice (although I don't have an android or apple phone for the app) and mounted the camera upside down too! It is obvious which way the camera goes, but the writing is on upside down isn't it! (design error). It was at that moment that I couldn't help feeling I'd spent ÂŁ250 on a heap of tat.

There's no spare 3M sticky pad either. On the plus side, It'll at least gives me a reason to buy a replacement pad in black rather than the grey one that looks hideous from the outside.

Also gives me more time to think about the electrics and which fuse to use. You'd like to think the 'fuse side' is as per the install in the thread. http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31560
but worth checking.

Crawling around on the floor accessing the fuse box is a pig unless your a 19th century chimney sweep boy. There's not meant to be a steering wheel and pedals in the way. As mentioned, the 'proper' earth terminals are almost inaccessible.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Its not a bodge, its the way the dashcams are installed..
Just because dashcam installers do it doesn't mean it's not a bodge! :)

I have several dashcams by the way. All take fused links direct to the battery. But each to their own :thumbsup:

dashcam install

Right then, got the meter out. Its been a long time since I did anything electrical, but;

1. The battery side of the fuse appears to be on the 'left', so if you connect as per the other thread (http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31560 ), there will be no fuse protection. Be good if someone else could check in case I've made a mistake.

2. The bolts above the pedals might not be ideal for an earth. I poked them with the meter and couldn't establish continuity with the earth terminals directly above the fuse box.

3. It's all an absolute pig to get to. A consequence of being designed for LHD by the devil himself. The fuse markings are inked in blood and it was never meant to be accessed by the living.

4. Wrapping the wire around the fuse is not ideal at all. The fuses are the new piss-ant size and there is very little space between the connectors. I suspect when you force the fuse in, there's a good chance you'll short the fuse out. It'll still work but you'll have no fuse protection for the dashcam or the car circuits you're tapping.

5. Fuse 2 (mirror memory or whatever it is) does indeed appear to be powered all the time, so OK for the yellow wire.

6. As mentioned, a separate fused connection to the battery would indeed be safer.

7. Wiring the rear camera, the lead is massive, so you end up with about 10 feet of cable wedged behind one of your trim panels. Worth planning out in advance where you're going to take up the slack.

With the 750, there's an extra inline fuse for the red wire but not the yellow one. I'd have thought the yellow one would be more important as its powered all the time? Not sure why this is. Anyone?

I don't like wedging the trim of my brand new ÂŁ30K+ car or messing with the electrics, so on balance, if I had to make the decision to buy the dashcam again, I'd probably not bother. I've managed decades of motoring without them after all. The cameras are also an eyesore. I suspect that like sat navs, these will probably be at least a built-in option on cars in a few years.

Hiding the cable behind the trim isn't at all intrusive & very simple. You're right about the length of the rear camera cable, fortunately there's a load of space between the roof & headliner. It's hidden nicely in there.
Just need to figure out the fuse situation now

I know, this was something I was dreading, but was really surprised how the trim just seemed to fall away!

Have you got it all installed then? If so does your parking mode work?

Not exactly! It made the install really easy but it's not overly enjoyable seeing the dubious fit and finish on your pride and joy up close. At the moment and after spending out that amount of cash, I'm trying to ignore things like this.

Not quite - Half done. Wired in, just need to;

1. read the manual, install the software
2. buy an iphone tomorrow to use the 'app'! (just a trivial expense!)
3. get some 3M tape to stick on the rear camera.
4. Hope it all works!

Parking mode could well be working now as I'm assuming it just activates automatically? Again, have to read the manual to see whats what.

Parking mode & motion detection are turned on via the app. Can't do it any other way that I can see.
I'm eager to see if yours works! I take it you'll be using the grounding points next to the fuse box instead of the one above the accelerator?

Yes, used one of the points next to the fuse box. Will let you know how it goes when I get everything going. Won't be pleased if it doesn't work!

Can't connect the phone via bluetooth. Either a fault with the phone or the dashcam. Using an iphone 6s. Did you manage to connect? if so, which phone (android/apple) are you using?

Wasted no end of time on this, I'm really regretting buying the dash cam.

Bluetooth? You need to use wireless , the camera has its own wireless ssid. You press the wireless button on the camera which turns the wireless broadcast on, then you connect to that then open the app.

Yup should be something there if its detected movement. The app crashes though if you try and download via the app (wish they'd fix it!!). I had to download the viewer software onto my laptop then plug the memory card in to view the footage.
