And how did your pirellis fair? I'll commend a 1.8 at 31psi.

My car is pretty damn efficient at 20psi on my street tires.

I'd love to see the data that backs what your claiming.

Edit: Never trying to start a pissing match.. I just don't see the point in discrediting someone, and telling them what works for them is wrong.. If it works, it works.. All the data I need.

I never took the stock wheels to the track. They came off as soon as I got home.

I don't deny it's working, and I'm all for what works, however you could be going faster. I had a similar issue with my DR's. I was running 18psi and getting 1.7's, high 1.6's. I bumped it up 4-5 psi incrementally and boom- 1.5's.

This data is years of experience and the wealth of knowledge of drag racers across the decades of its existence and basic knowledge of tire construction. Air supports the tread, if there is no support then the steel belts will fold inwards towards the center of the tire, this will lift the tread. You probably can't see it, but physics can.

It is also easy to test the contact patch theory with a simple burnout on clean pavement. Do one at 30 and try one with 20 psi and see which is better as far as contact patch. If it's full at 20 then kudos.

No pissing match intended, just want people to go fast:cheers:

You think I'm going to cut a better short than 1.81 on stock 275 Pirelli pzeros?

I've tried all different pressures.. On different track temps, at different power levels.. For the pirellis, this is what works on the car.. I'd love for it to go faster, but the fastest passes to date, was with 19-20 psi. And that's over the course of 70-80 passes, if I had to guess.

The drag radials on our race car however, (1.3x shorts) do react worse to lower pressures, so I see where you're coming from. Anything lower than 18-19psi slows the car down or does something whacky.

Is your car an auto?

It is, I launch at 3200 and it hit surprisingly hard for an auto. Looks like you've done your due diligence anyways, I had issues with my street tires running low pressure and it took me an entire track day to work up from 24 psi to 31.

I am assuming here but maybe the sidewall is a good bit softer on the stock Pirellis and is allowing the lower pressures. Both my street and DR's have relatively short and stiff sidewalls (275/35-19's and 275/40-17's). The softer sidewalls could be helping with the tread pattern and the shock of a manual trans.

Yeah they definitely like to be shocked hard.. I usually leave around 3800ish... Give or take.. Side stepping the clutch.. That's what I've had the most success with. I've tried slipping it.. Spins and the factory clutch does NOT like it lol.

It sucks that I had to get an auto (mainly due to the injury that makes it most feasible- I probably couldn't DD a stick) BUT I got to say I'm kind of glad I did. I don't have the patience to deal with getting these manuals off the line.

Although I did scoop some 28" slicks for a possible addition to the garage :D

My 1.66 short time came on 19 psi in the drag radials. I'm going to sneak it back up a few pounds and see if it helps a bit. I tried running them down to 17-18 at the track rental in November, and they were't happy..lol. 285/40-18 on a 10" rim, so not a lot of sidewall give to absorb the shock.

I'm still planning on riding down unless it's a monsoon...lol.

That was one of the more miserable days that I've had at the track recently..lol. Car ran fine, but it was a bit much for us humans. I can say it helped test the ability of the Levels IC to dissipate charge heat....passed with flying colors. Tomorrow night should be awesome...hopefully it's not wall to wall with cars so we can get more than two or three runs in. V3 E30 tune is loaded, and feels pretty good.

hey Jbenso127 just to add some extra credibility to higdominator claims, he worked with me at the track for a day on pressures etc. and by the end of it I was running 13.7s in a non PP EB auto on those P-Zeros and my sweet spot was 24Psi

Would you recommend staying above 20 on stock tires? Granted this is kind of all just trial and error
A radial tire will cup in the middle if you drop that much air pressure. I'd stay in the 28 to 25 psi range. If you make the switch to drap radials. Then going from 20 down is good advice.

Right on man.. Apple to oranges I reckon.. A GT manual probably applies power a little harder than an auto eb. Can go back and forth all day.. What works for one, may not work for the other! I'll post some data of my own tomorrow.

Curious.. Are your pzeros all seasons?

BTW....know of anyone with some 17" skinnies I could possibly borrow for the night? If not, no biggie...just thinking out loud about getting rid of a lot of rolling resistance from the 18's.
