Hi guys,

how many of you have already been on the first service check at your dealer? I have 6,200 kms and I'm thinking about an oil change at least. Do you wait until 10-15k kms or did you service earlier?

How much did you pay and what exactly did they check/replace?

Thanks!

Technically the manual (USA manual mile to km conversion) states up to 16,093 KM OR when your oil monitoring system says so for the stock synthetic blend.

Most guys here change the oil to a full synthetic and use 8,000 KM intervals. You can go longer safely than that, just depends on your driving and the quality of the oil AND filter.

Some, like me, do the first oil change at 1,600 KM to get the initial engine wear in the fluid out of the system.

All depends on what school of thought you subscribe to.

I'm going in the spring as I don't really plan to drive the car in the winter.
Got 6500 on board and will use Motul oil because I don't trust the Ford oil. You use the same oil in a Fiesta or a Mustang...

The first service for a GT will be at 15000 km and it costs 300 euro in Sweden, 30000 km will cost 450 euro and 45000 km 300 euro.
No need to pay extra for extra service between those, for example the BMW has 30000 km intervalls for oil change.

:eyebulge: My dealer said to come back to the dealer store at 5.000 km to do 'some checks' - sure they want to get some extra money!

Do you guys are sure that no maintenance is due at 5.000 km?

Yes, these is the officiall number from Ford. 15k km or 1 year.

I have 2k km now and will do a first oil change in a few weeks, to get rid of all the small particles that will be in the oil after the first kilometers. But I also wanted to put in new, more white DRLs and change the lower grille, so I have to visit my dealer nevertheless

Initially my dealer said to come in at 2500 for a checkup & full synthetic oil change. Aparantly they just did a check up and and said to do an oil change at 15000km or 1year, whatever comes first.
Still I wanted an oil change to get the first debree out of it but they said it wasn't necesarry. Maybe they are right or maybe not, I don't know. Anyway, while I was there they installed my catchcan on the house.

Guys if you want to have the engine in excellent condition, DON'T trust the intervals of 15000 and 30000 for oil changes. Synthetic Oil is relatively cheap nowadays and you can do it easily at any gas station.

I'll re-state the above. Listen to the guys who have had these cars and engines for a while overseas.

IF you want the best for your car then you'll use a quality full synthetic (I use AMSOIL, the best in my opinion) AND a quality oil filter and change every 8,000-16,000 KM depending on the oil/filter/your driving style. I would NOT wait 16,000 KM to change your oil with just the regular Ford filter and semi-synthetic blend.

I paid $130.00 for my first service at 7,500 miles. The service included full synthetic oil, tire rotation and a few other things.

This is one area that you will never get agreement on; back in '99 I bought a new Camaro in the UK, and the oil change interval was 10K miles/16K km - it had fully synthetic oil.

The same engine & same oil in the US had an oil change interval of 3K miles/5K km. No one at GM could explain the difference.

i think it might be a "cultural" thing - in the US they are used to popping into the local JiffyLube for a quick oil change; in the UK we don't have any real equivalent.

And modern egines are built to much better tolerances than 20 or 30 years ago so that we don't need the same kind of "running in" and "early oil change" of those days.

But for peace of mind, the oil & filter change isn't much to spend for your new baby!
