Just checked on a price to have my springs installed and they quoted me $470 for install and alignment, is it just me or does seem like alot?? Before you say it, I am clueless when it comes to DIY so I wouldn't even try to tackle it, just wondering if this quote is out of line...thanks

It is a little high but then again these springs are not like putting them in a fox body mustang, especially the rears.

I think I paid about $550.00 for springs and install----alignment should be $85.00-100.00 extra

Funny thing was they quoted me more for the front than the back, and ya they said alignment would be $80

That's about right. 3.5hrs labor, plus alignment. Granted, it is realistically about a 2.5 hour job. Labor rates have climbed over the past 10 years. We used to charge $97/hour and then down to $85 over 4 hours of labor.

That's a touch high, but realistically, if you're doing a 4-wheel alignment - which you should - after doing the install, that's a solid $400-ish in labor for a good shop.

Doesn't seem to be to hard to do if you have the right tools.

Lol no jack stands, jacks and some sockets and wrenches?
Nope, as I said I am clueless when it comes to working on a car, I actually have some sockets, but no stands, jack or the spring thing

That price is actually very close to what I paid to have them put on my vert. $400.00 for the install labor and 115.00 for the 4-wheel alignment.

I watched the mechanics do mine. It was quite involved and I would never want to do it without a lift and air tools. A torque wrench too is needed.

That said, it was worth it to pay for install...right up until I had to uninstall them later to get rid of the rattle they caused. The springs were just not quite right for the Verts in May of this year. Luckily, Steeda refunded me for the springs. I did have to pay another 200.00 to have the stock springs put back on instead, my mechanic did me a favor since he felt sorry for me.

With all due respect, if this is the case, what basis are you using to determine that the price quote was ridiculous?

$1,000 would be ridiculous.

$390 for install and $80 alignment is not that bad. Sounds like 4 hours at $97.50/hour. Not too bad.

Your alternative is to buy some tools, jack, and jack stands, and spend a day in the driveway learning to wrench and you'll get a huge sense of satisfaction. In addition to the sense of pride you'd get, you'd also have newfound confidence in your ability to turn wrenches on your car.

$250 in tools will go a long way. Otherwise, you pay for install for piece of mind, and someone to blame for issues.

This^ A spring compressor you can rent but if you don't have the other tools it would serve you well to find a friend, relative (or a local forum member) that could assist.
A shop that regularlly performs this type of work shouldn't charge you more than 2, 2.5 hours labor not counting the alignment, IMOP anyway.

Doesn't seem to be to hard to do if you have the right tools.
Some of these install vids make these jobs seem easier than they are. Doing a spring install is no walk in the park if you haven't done one before. Plus spring installs vary from car to car.
