Why are axlebacks so expensive?

I've had my new 5.0 for little over a month now and whenever I've shown it to friends and family they always want to hear the exhaust; but then they look disappointed and say that its quiet. I've been looking into swapping the exhaust out for an axleback system...specifically the Roush axleback...but boy the prices are sure high. I've bought just mufflers before, in the past, but it sure seems like the axleback systems are expensive considering that its a muffler with some extra pipe and a tip. Are there good deals to be had around Christmas time?

Kind of agree with you. $700+ for an axle back is retarded IMO.

I bought a set of off-road longtubes and an x-pipe resonator delete instead. If I'm not happy with the sound after the longtubes I guess I'll pony up for some axle backs. It'll probably be some Corsa's because I can't stand drone and after having a Corsa system in the past I know for sure they have zero drone.

In before "it costs zillions of dollars for BMW/GTR/Z06 exhaust so you should be happy"

Exhaust prices are extremely high, but some people believe that if you bitch about it you should have never bought the car. Apparently they are way more rich than myself because they have 1000's of extra dollars to burn

Across the board, exhaust systems are high. Overhead to run a business is a bitch. But price a '05-'14 exhaust to a '15-'16 and look at the difference.

That's what I was thinking....maybe inflation since I last shopped exhaust almost a decade ago. I don't doubt that some great products are being offered for our cars though.

I care about infotainment
I think exhausts systems have gone up in price quite a bit from even 7-8 years ago. I remember I was thinking about getting a Magnaflow catback for my S197 when I first got it; the prices were around $800 (that was 2008). Now, most catback systems from the well known companies are $1100 - $1500.

Solo performance makes an axle back exhaust for ~$420. They haven't listed their group buy here but it's on their Ebay store. I definitely agree though that the exhaust prices are crazy. Probably since the car is new and they have to recoup some of the R&D as time goes on they will come down.

That's why I went with the MBRP Catback, the entire system costs less than axle-backs. With the deal beefcake gives it was a no-brainier for me. I am not going to pay over $2,0000~ $2,5000 for headers & a complete exhaust system.

It does suck. The Borla exhaust specifically has stayed pretty consistent across the board. However, the Roush went up $100-$150 brand new from three years ago even though its the same design with different piping direction. Others have followed as well.

Tried pinging a couple vendors here asking about similar deals being offered to other members on the Roush AB but got no response. Ended up just using a 6% code somewhere else to get the cost down.

I picked up a couple of 14" oval Magna Flow mufflers from Summit Racing. They were $90 for the pair with a coupon I had. I then purchased a pair of tips off Amazon for $40. Some scrap rod for hangers and an hour with my welder and I have an axle back for $130.

Another reason I am going w Stainless Works, like the design for one, price point & heard good reviews from a few vendors out there including Beefcake.
