Yeah I think that it is rated at 91, same as the SS.
Agreed, it can be done on 91 with a really good tune but you will be on the ragged edge of knocking, a bad tank of gas would make it knock so hard the ecu might not be able to pull the timing fast enough to save the motor. on 93 I bet you could pull 290 crank hp safely and 275 seems good for a conservative factory tune.

On 87, no way unless you had like an 8 to 1 cr and 8000 rpm redline

It's looking like the new 4 banger Camaro may get some healthy upgrade options since it shares the same engine as the ATS.
The 2.0T ATS has been a disaster with motors blowing left and right yet stock. I was on the ATS forums when I had the 3.6 V6. And I test drove the 2.0T and there was nothing to like about it.

A properly tuned turbo will last a very long time, the problem is that whenever you boost a motor the margin of safety shrinks rapidly.
This is one of the reasons OEMs leave so much power on the table with a boosted car, so bad gas on a warm day doesn't det the motor to death. Modern turbo cars have such good knock detection that you can actually tune them fairly aggressively and be safe, the stock tune on the EBM is so mellow you can run 87 (though you lose power and efficiency).

EJ25s suffer from a relatively weak pistons that crack ring-lands easily due to knock, The factory tune swiches from closed loop to ope loop way too slow making the car go lean for a while. Open up the intake and exhaust on one making one breathe better, and the map sensor thinks less air is flowing in at a given pressure than is really going in and you can make it knock really hard really quick. Almost every subie owner I know has blown ring-lands. It was more tunning issue tha a real weakness in the motor

The Ecoboost also uses cast hypereutectic pistons so i think they are the weakest link.

The Camaro is much lighter, but it is significantly down on power vs the Ecoboost.
Doubt it, my Base EBM Weighed in at 3433 lbs with a 1/4 tank of gas. The mags all tested and weighed Premium PP EBMs. I never saw a base model on any magazine anywhere.. I have a feeling the weights Gm is throwing around are also stripper model weights which are being compared to fully loaded press Mustangs. I dont expect a 2.0 Camaro to be much if at all lighter than my EBM
+/- 20 pounds is my guess.

yeah, that CL/OL switch was the reason I tuned the car at 1,000 miles. then at 20,000 miles I went even further with intake/exhaust bolt ons, and finally at 50k i went with fuel upgrades/E85.

i sold it at 80k and it was still running strong, while the rest of my subie buddies all had blown their engines. i felt like i had a hero motor.

it did pick up some sort of knock (sounded like rod knock) for a few seconds after restarting the car while hot (after refueling for example) that started at around 65k miles.

You did it the right way I suppose. The stock tune is terrible. Also almost every ej I ever heard over 80k had a slight rod knock, and every single one I saw torn down had lots of bearing wear. I suspect the oiling to the rod bearings was really bad. Going to a thicker oil early in the motor's life seemed to help stave it off. Anyways this is all second hand knowledge I have from knowing lots of people with subies. I never owned one myself or did much work on them. Only reason I know so much is that every time I was at the shop, there was a Subie there with a blown motor. To be perfectly honest, it's what put me off of them forever.

LOL that figures. I don't think I've been to the subie shop I used w/o seeing a WRX or STI with a blown motor either.

I did switch to Rotella T6 early in its life. That probably helped.

Well official curb weights say something different. But we shall see.

Edit: Chevy announced that with a full tank (curb weight) the 2.0 weighs 3,339. So yes. It will be lighter.

Well the 2.0T ATS has proven to be a real beast...

i buy cars for their performance, not their looks. it's how i ended up with a subaru (one of the ugliest brand of cars out there) and now a GTPP. i just happened to get lucky that the mustang is pretty decent looking.

29 engine failures on one forum alone !

Just think what a small percentage of cars that represents.
I'm worried now that if I can get one to race me ,he might blow an engine which would suck all the joy out of it. Honestly, I wouldn't wish that on anybody.
