Add me to the list, lost another job today. Being an Accountant, but having a lack of detail is extremely difficult. Maybe I'll have a S550 in 20 years.

Is there something else that interests you you could look into?

I ask, because I can relate. I had a decent career in clinical data management in the pharma industry for about a decade. As I went up the ladder, the prospect of taking on more responsibilities became increasingly stressful. Forget being in management; I hated being any sort of team leader...it is a struggle for me to multitask at that level. I didn't want the anxiety that goes with not being able to concentrate, either. After a fairly lengthy period of unemployment myself from my last non-pharma-related job, (I was the first laid off when the ecomony went splat) I now work at a small company doing many different things throughout the day (a few mundane, a few not), from testing our database as it was built (that's done now, but my pharma background really helped), billing clients (learned basic Quickbooks), to keeping the office and kitchen supplies stocked (really, a thankless task). I help out in different departments when it is needed. I couldn't be happier; I have the variety in my day while maintaining my sanity...and the owner really likes me. :D I appreciate him for all the accommodations he has made for me (working abbreviated hours, for example), and all I did was be upfront with my issues. The least I can do for him is work my ass off. As long as the company stays afloat, I believe my position is pretty safe. And I could not have done this without the support of hubster.

Anyway....didn't mean to hijack the thread...but we were talking about jobs, which typical folk normally need to make stang payments. Please know you are not alone in your struggle. I hope you are getting help, and I wish you the best so your owning your dream car becomes a reality...and soon.

I do Accounting, but was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD so thats most of the issue.
I don't mean to pry in your personal business or even medical history, but how would having ADD be an issue for being a professional accountant?
I myself, have been diagnosed with ADD and later ADHD since I was 6 (24 now) and I'm still on meds for it, but it never once impacted my ability to get or maintain a job.
I do Civil Design/CAD work for a living which I know is far different from an accountant, but seeing as both jobs require and sometimes demand high levels of attention and detail, I just find it out that your place of work would deem such a thing an issue, especially if your were recently diagnosed.
Like I said, I don't mean to pry, it just caught my attention (no pun intended)

lol I can see how, accounting is incredibly boring and it makes it hard to focus. I'm a financial analyst and I spend all day on this forum ;)

I was recently diagnosed as of April and have struggled to maintain jobs over the last several years. I get bored quite easily, start to daydream, etc. I've been on meds since April and while I've been able to concentrate more, I still have a lack of detail which cost me this job. I even tried such tricks as checklists, task lists, etc.

One of my closest friends had Adult ADHD. He taught me a lot about it. For example, persons with ADD can be super skilled at a fast-paced video game, but have extreme trouble focusing on slower (and mundane) tasks. Apparently the ADD mind just outraces reality.

CM581978, have you looked into the possibilities of other careers? I think those that are creative (e.g. CAD, as mentioned above, provided it is YOUR creations and not micro-managing changes to someone else's designs) are not as boring, and you maybe could have more success.

I do realize that it can be a long difficult process to change careers.

That's why I love my job personally, but I get the taste of both worlds.
I get times to design my own stuff but I do have to manage changes to other designs along with my own changes that I make. I'm not going to say its not boring or mundane at times (cause weekly workflow meetings are always boring :headbonk:) but from a CAD perspective at least, it keeps my attention, and sometimes the ADD helps.
Throwing all of my spastic attention in one thing at times helps me notice errors others may not notice, even seasoned project managers that read plans as if they were coloring books. Its just one of those little hidden talents that comes out.
And to CM581978, that's the best way to go about it. Find some way to utilize that hidden talent. It took me nearly 3 years of changing career paths and jobs till I finally settled to where I am and now always hope to stay.
And best of luck to the both of ya'll and anyone else here or everywhere struggling in the job market.
And don't worry, there will be plenty new Mustangs for ya'll when the time comes for yall to drive it right off the lot! :clap2:

Sup,

I take a drug called Vyvanse. It changed my life with my ADHD. I started it at 34 and I am now 36. 70mg a day and I feel great. The best way I have ever been able to describe the feeling is like this. It is as if you are walking a huge dog that is terrible on a leash down the road. It is a constant struggle to keep it under control. It ges where ever it wants and you kind of hang on for the ride.

It sucks losing a job man. I wish you the best of luck with the search. I am in a similar boat, except my job will never pay me enough to get a Mustang. There isn't a lot of money working in group homes with teen boys. I also support and house the homeless and mentally ill. I hope you find your groove soon.

Skape

That sucks bro.
Been there in 2009. Almost laid off for 2 years to the date. I'd be more worried about getting a new, good paying job than a new Mustang though, that's for sure. The economy isn't as great as it used to be still.
Good luck going forward!

I was in the same boat but with my wheel purchase. My company was starting to "grow" (cut costs) and nobody knew who it would be. Since I was middle of the totem pole, I never knew if I might get chopped. Or the way they did it...move my job to an area with much higher cost of living and not offer pay increase.

A job opened up in a COMPLETELY different field and I decided what the hell, and took it. I make more money, work 4 days a week, get bonuses worth a shit, and love the guys I manage. I went from Wealth Management to Landscape Management, and two months in, I couldn't be happier. The stress is nearly gone, which is amazing. And the growth opportunity has increased exponentially. I ended up keeping my wheel order in as well!

Fine tune your resume and apply for everything you see that has to do with something you may enjoy. Even if you think you are under qualified, apply anyway. I have never met all of the "Required Qualifications" to a job I was hired for. And if it is a job you are interested in after the interview, follow up with the HR Dept or your point of contact weekly! Good luck!
