Oh, this is good. Ford creates the best corner carving Mustang ever, and we're arguing about drag racing, lol.
Seems silly at first glance, but it's amazing what shows up at our local dragstrips. I was drag racing at Pacific Raceways (near Seattle) last Wednesday and there were some cars running that would seem more at home on a road course (i.e. Nissan GT-R, Porsche Cayman S, 4 different Mercedes/AMG's, etc.). A couple years ago when the Boss 302's hit the streets, more than a few hit our local dragstrips, as well.

^ Pacific Raceways, nice! Or the old Seattle Int'l Raceway... I tracked there (an '11 S197) back in the summer of 2011. Cool backwoods and some elevation change... I also like turns 3a-3b.

Did you seriously just say that an M4 would lose to a GT350R in a drag race? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black on "talking out of your ass". The GT350 is going to be an amazing car, yes, but let's be real here:

The M4 has a curb weight of 3530 lb, with a peak torque of 408 lb-ft available as low as 1850 RPM.

The GT350R (with all the lightening it has over the GT350) has a curb weight of 3650 lb, with a peak torque of 429 lb-ft at 4750 RPM.

While the GT350 has the advantage in peak horsepower, the lighter weight and significantly beefier torque curve of the M4 would easily win out. Not that any of this matters, anyway, because the track is where both of these cars were designed to shine.

And it's not just the power curve on the m4, it's the dct 7speed tranny which gives it a huge advantage. That car is on another level especially with a tune..

^^^^^ well I guess we will just have to see. I personal think the GT350R will beat the M4 in every category....except for under and over steer :)

I think the F82 M4 w/ the DCT will be a tad faster/quicker in a straight line (0-60, 1/4 mile, etc.) than the GT350/GT350R... but on the road course the Shelby will have a larger gap, lap per lap.

True^ but given the history of the car, I think any Mustang ever made and that will ever be made will have enthusiasts talking about drag racing and 1/4 mile times. You know Ford knows this even if the GT350 was made for turns.

Don't forget a member on this forum spotted them drag testing these cars at Bradenton afterall.

I do agree on your point though. The GT350's acclaim will come on the track.
Didn't realize they were down here... geez. That's 40 minutes from me.

Oh, and I agree. People will want to know how they stack up. Just thought it was funny enough to point out. I'm sick that way.

0-60 and 1/4 mile E.T. can be a bit misleading. 0-60 is for the rice boys. Trap MPH is the real metric. This is the # number that will give you a far better idea of what your actual street driving experince will be.

Probably because it was closed to the public and had to sneak in whatever footage he could. I'm surprised he was even able to get this close and actually talk to the drivers.

30 year Porsche owner here. Have Porsche Boxster S race car. Have a 2016 Spyder on order. Responded to invitation from Ford to my track group and am doing Shelby GT350 test drive at Sebring next month. Am excited to buy my first Mustang. This car looks like the real deal. May have to wait a while as I don't believe in paying above MSRP.
How did you get an invite ? My understanding was it was for past Boss and 13/14 GT 500 original owners only. The spots were filled very quickly and left a lot of owners out in the cold.

There were other 'types' of invites particularly if you had a connection with Ford or one of their affiliates.... I have 2 friends who were not past Boss/Shelby new car buyers and both got invited someway somehow. 1 is confirmed and 1 is on the wait list.
