Just got a call from Jim over at KB.. Their base 2.8L kit with a 3 1/2" pulley just laid down 715whp at 7300rpm!

Car is 100% bone stock, other than the 50 state legal kit, smaller pulley, and a 21 volt boost-a-pump.

Pretty impressive!

Damn. That is an auto, too....

How much boost is that? 12-13psi?

Do you (or KB) take a customer's altitude into consideration when a kit is ordered? And give a smaller pulley for those at higher altitudes so they can hit the kit's advertised psi? And are the install instructions available anywhere for download?

Travis, since you have a lot of experience with superchargers, what do you think the "Parasitic loss" is on that setup? A rough #? 80 or 90 HP?

That means to get a net 715 RWH, that engine had to produce around 900HP at crank to compensate for "Parasitic loss" and power train. Is this a close calculation?

Secondly, if we were to compare same size S/C between KB and Whipple, which one has a higher Parasitic loss?

Thank you in advance.

Assuming a 15% drivetrain loss through an auto, the car would be making 841 hp.

You missed the Parasitic loss variable, which was the core of my question.
Aye, I read it too fast. I thought you were just talking about drivetrain, but you meant the loss from turning the blower as well. Carry on then lol.

We do with our packages.. If a customer is at a higher altitude, we can re-pulley and tune for that situation. The base KB kit is more than capable of running safely at a higher altitude as well.

At this power level, it takes around 80hp to spin the supercharger.

I'm not sure what Whipple's losses are. I'm sure they're comparable at this blower size and hp level.

Thanks Travis;
That's what I thought, around 80 HP at this power level, but I'm not sure how much Whipple looses.

Doesn't the KB 3.2 use more power than the 2.8?
