I don't think people are asking the question or considering it because they are thinking of turning it into a drag car. They are just talking about it because...

I also don't think anyone is talking about just slapping twins on this car without learning what it would take to do it right, at least I hope not. The reality is there will always be someone who wants to do something more with their car whether it be cosmetic mods or mechanical. A better stereo, or more horsepower. That's what this place is for.

Forums have really evolved from a place to learn and bounce ideas off each other and what it would take to do something to a you're stupid if you don't agree with me place. Not all forums mind you, and there are plenty of sub-forums here on mustang6g that are great places to learn to share. Just a lot very strong opinions about this car as there is with any purpose built car.

Some excellent tech points made. Unlike the Gt500 engine which was built to make huge horsepower, the GT350 engine is decidely more exotic. I have no idea what is possible (or more importantly practical) but it will be interesting to watch what a creative tuner can accomplish.

What does a front heavy 700HP GT350 accomplish, that a 700HP GT wouldn't accomplish?

Comes down to logical goals. I can rant endlessly on things I'd like to see... in any forum on any topic.

What does a front heavy 700HP GT350 accomplish, that a 700HP GT wouldn't accomplish?

Comes down to logical goals. I can rant endlessly on things I'd like to see... in any forum on any topic.
One thing that comes to mind is the drag mode with magneride could be quite great on the strip. By loosening the front shocks and having the rear shocks react very quickly, the GT350 just might do better than you would think... even with a heavy blower on the nose of the car.

Why does it have to be front heavy?
A blower would be in the engine compartment, adding significant weight. Also piping and intercoolers add weight to the absolute worst area of the car. I suppose you could do twin turbos under the car near the rear suspension somewhere, if they fit there. Then it might be possible to have a power adder without a nose-heavy car.

That's what I can't figure out either. The suspension isn't setup to handle huge HP from a stop.

A setup blown GT with aftermarket coilovers and bushings/braces will be much quicker off the line than a blown GT350. I don't think magnaride was built or intended to handle the strain of punching it off the line in a drag situation. There is a lot more flexibility in stiffness and other aspects with coilovers and different bushing and braces aftermarket than the GT350 offers stock.

I was comparing both cars with just the power adders. If you want to upgrade the GT suspension and then say "ok now it doesn't make sense to put a power adder on the GT350", that's fine, but understand you are doing an apples and oranges thing. Stock vs. stock the GT350 suspension has some features that may give an advantage at the strip.

I could say that a GT350 that's been back-halved with a SRA would outperform a GT at the strip, but again that would also be apples and oranges, right?

I think Ford put in a drag mode because they think some people will go to the strip with their GT350s. Therefore I would say I think you are wrong about magneride being designed to handle a drag situation. Just having the drag mode proves that the magneride system in the GT350 in fact WAS designed for a drag race situation.

I was being sarcastic. :cheers: I've got a KB sitting on my motor right now.

First I wouldn't s/c this car, I would only turbo it and there's plenty of lightweight materials out there to make a great balanced set-up.

It will be interesting. I say we will see a boosted 350 in less than two months so we will see what someone out there will do with it. I can't wait honestly. I love when people go outside the sand box.

I agree about it being interesting and I'm also looking forward to seeing what happens with boosted Voodoos. I wonder whether any/all boosted setups will run E85 or race fuel only, being that the car is supposed to be run on 93 with the factory setup?

I agree fully, but regardless of the 350 vs GT capabilities for sake of some of the rebuttals made, no one even knows if the high compression Voodoo can handle much boost without blowing.

It's an unknown until someone risks a 5.2 to try it. So to say yes or no I'll add FI is premature at best until it's even known IF the engine can handle it without significant modifications.

The main concern for the engine itself is detonation, which can be solved with high enough octane fuel, a safe tune, retarded timing, etc. It's just like any other boosted application.

The rods take the highest load under tension at TDC on the exhaust stroke. The engine will tolerate some amount of boost as far as the rods are concerned.

I sure wouldn't add boost - I'm a total chicken and won't want to damage my expensive vehicle or even to void the warranty, but there's no reason the engine cannot be boosted.
