There might be some faulty logic there. If there is a car with twenty empty spaces around it, you're saying you would park right beside it to give the driver peace of mind by protecting one side? If it was my car, I'd feel better if you parked two spaces over. As for protecting your own car, how do you know that the first car doesn't have a large driver who needs to open the doors really wide to get in or a kid on the passenger side?

Around here, I park a few spaces farther away than the majority of the cars and like-minded drivers will park with at least a one space cushion.
Valid perspective. And according to a few on here, I could end up with damage if I invade their perceived personal space. But I've always looked at it as a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. By this I mean parking by one nice car eases my mind for one side of my car. Whereas if I park a few spots away I have the potential for two unknown cars to park next to me. Either way, public parking is a crap shoot. And we all hedge our bets in our own ways and hope for the best.

Imagine all the double-think among us drivers that never actually meet and talk.

If I parked next to that guy out in the boonies, I would park with our passengers sides together. Then he would know that my driver door won't hit him, nor his mine. That might make him feel better.

If you walk into a rest room with 10 urinals, do you take the one right next to the only guy in there using it? I didn't think so ... :D

LoL ... sure you can, just an analogy that might help you see the light. Maybe that's why you can't seem to connect the dots with the parking thing. ;)

Like many things in life - there are multiple perspectives. We live in a world with many different folks. The more perspective one has, the less annoying the little things are.

As for the analogy of taking a leak... if you're afraid of getting wet, don't use the public restroom.

LoL ... not quite the message, but I hope someone doesn't piss on me from the next stall.

No, it's about respecting people's space, and property. It's something people usually do out of courtesy and respect. It should be no different when parking cars, or anything else where society interacts with each other.

Taking up 2 spots is the worst! I lived in an apartment and parking was a ridiculous. My wife calls me on her cell phone and said out neighbor(Dbag) was taking up 2 spots(parked sideways). It was raining and she had groceries and there were no spots left to park. I told her I'll be right there. As I was bringing the groceries in, I noticed the car next to him moved. I parked real close to the Dbag's Scion . There was no way he was getting out. I then left a note telling him who I was and I"ll be back from vacation in a few days. Problem solved. He never parked that way again. Oh yeah, it wasn't the first time he parked that way.

You cant add tone to text. Maybe he was just sharing how his friend handles it, not that his friend was proud. Its possible that his friend is proud, its also possible that hes not. Some people do things out of frustrations, doesn't make them proud.
Good point.

The space that is "your" space is between the lines. If another car parks between the lines next to you, he isn't disrespecting "your" space. If he's a poor parker or leaves no space between the cars, I can understand someone feeling annoyed. But if a car is parked respectfully between the lines, allowing space for doors to open - get over it. Like I've said, not all people who park next to you are pricks. But if you assume they are, the prick very well may be you.

Now come on ... don't start making this personal or we're gonna have a problem. Listen, when someone parks out by themselves and someone parks right next to them instead of a space or two over there is something that's not quite right. You may think it's all fine and dandy, but to tell you the truth you seem to be the only one here trying to tell everyone to "get over it".

Well guess what ... I'll never get over some dickweed parking right next to me when I'm way out by myself and he's got literally dozens of other spaces to park in. Granted, if it's another nice sports car then I don't think too much about it, but if it's some piece of shit then it's pretty obvious the idiot isn't doing it to "protect his car", or mine. They are doing it to screw with people. And frankly, I don't like people who screw with me, and that includes getting personal on a chat board.

This ^^^ 100%
It amazes me how many people on this forum get upset at other drivers for doing nothing illegal. The entitlement attitude mixed in with obvious immaturity is growing old.

You don't have to do something illegal to be an ass in society. I see it every day in a highly populated area.
