Okay, let's talk. 200lbs lighter than the z/28 but with more content. Looks like if both are available to go head-to-head this year, the z is an also-ran. Ball is now in GM's court. And they will likely follow with a faster z/28.So a 3650 lbs gt350r, lets talkopcorn:
We knew it would out gun the z28 and by all means it should. New chassis, purpose built engine and lighter. If it doesn't win by a large margin I'd be mad. The z28 shouldn't be able to win in any aspect tested.Okay, let's talk. 200lbs lighter than the z/28 but with more content. I though the going rumor "cough cough" from certain members were that it would be low 3500lbs maybe even high 3400lbs. And if you go off the rumor of 200lbs less than a standard gt that still falls way short doesn't it? So now who lies worse? GM with the weight of the ats-v or Ford with the 350r?So a 3650 lbs gt350r, lets talkopcorn:
Agree. But then, the z/28 was lauded for outperforming the Boss 302 by a good margin. If I were a GM fanboy, I'd have been mad if it didn't, given it was a purpose-built car.We knew it would out gun the z28 and by all means it should. New chassis, purpose built engine and lighter. Yes and no. The z28 was built on a already old sedan platform with nothing more than some suspension and tires added. The ls7 was a pre-existing and yet again old engine. The boss had less power 444 vs 505 but did so with a few hundred less pounds although it did give up alot in tire size. When the z28 won Chevy guys rejoiced for joy and the ford guys said well it should have won by more. I'm sure the same will happen here with these two.Agree. Frankly, anyone who gets mad at GM or Ford for giving us cars like these, regardless of which outperforms the other at any given time, is just someone looking for drama.
SS model is claimed to be 200lbs with the v6 rumored to be around 300lbs. The turbo4 should be close to the v6 weight. With those number it should put the camaro at low 3700 high 3600. I would think 3700-3750 would be rock bottom.GM claims the 2016 Camaro will be 200 lbs lighter, not sure which model.
Can I quote you on this and refer back to it when the numbers are released? You've changed up the numbers drastically over time so I wanna make sure this is your final answer. :cheers:This is as light as it gets, don't expect a 3800lbs Camaro fella's. Not gonna happen...
 He might have meant 3700lbs!Can I quote you on this and refer back to it when the numbers are released? You've changed up the numbers drastically over time so I wanna make sure this is your final answer.
Yes, that is the sole reason I post. Can I quote you on this and refer back to it when the numbers are released? You've changed up the numbers drastically over time so I wanna make sure this is your final answer.
So you say 3850 and now its back to 3780-3820? Cmon man you gotta pick one and stick with it. If not it could be within 20-30lbs either way which would make for 100lb spread and you will say "see I told you". That's reaching at best since we all can roughly judge what it will be within a 100 lbs.Yes, that is the sole reason I post.
I have been pretty firm at 3780-3820lbs. I'd think with all that we learned about the Mustang and ATS that a 3700lbs SS is a pipe dream. Equipment is just too heavy nowadays.
The GT350 didn't hit Fords PtW ratio target, it was suppose to be the same as the old GT3. I think it settled at 6.8 (was 6.3). It seems some weight came back on to meet MSRP targets.
The z28 is soundly beaten, MSRP, PtW, weight, output, powerband and lap times...
There is no 2016 SS that will compete with the GT350 and its performance in Motorsport is shocking.
If our GT350 weighs 3780lbs, I just can't see another car being lighter while being larger, equipped with 20's, has a heavier drivetrain, 4 more airbags and it's loaded up to our Premium. The only thing heavier on the GT350 are the rotors and maybe front calipers... Even in the best case scenario and both BIW's were equal weight, the SS still has a lot of work ahead of it.
The SS also has no Performance Pack of any kind, just a dealer installed upgrade. This was over the day they released the option list.
Why does everyone use this excuse when it comes to the Z/28? Sure it might be on an older platform, but the Z/28 still has a better suspension system and a most likely still a better tire. It's also more expensive.Yes the z28 is and should be beaten in every way. Kudos to Ford for beating a old out going model. Same as Chevy did against the boss when guys like you cried foul. Shoes o. The other foot and now your not a hypocrite? :headbonk:
