Why would you downgrade like that?

I am sure there is someone out there who regrets picking up an MT-82 and will be willing to swap their garbage for your 6R80.
^^Don't listen to guys like this. They offer no constructive feedback to the topic. He's always bashing the MT in these cars and the people that buy them.

There are people who do regret getting an MT-82, but there also people who regret getting the automatic (like the OP). It goes both ways!

Anyways, If I were you, I wouldn't trade in your automatic because of the hit you're gonna take (financially).

There really isn't anything bad I can say about the manual. I've been driving mine on a daily basis since December. I love it and have had zero issues. If you decide to swap, don't worry about breaking it in or anything; you'll be just fine. I just don't think it's a great idea to swap. Think twice, buy once.

This is something I have been struggling with but realized my gut made the right decision originally. I originally was dead set on getting an EB but got distracted by cars like the Charger Scat Pack and the Golf R, and was having a terrible time deciding. Finally decided my first choice was for a reason and went with it. Now that it is done I can objectively look at it being the smartest option. Basically, give yourself some credit on the original decision and think hard about it.

Sooo you're willing to lose money trading for a trans with less features, slower times and worse reputation, why? Don't tell me someone made fun of you for driving an auto
No one made fun of me for driving an auto..

I went through the same thing with a Challenger. Bought the auto so my wife could drive it. It was so boring I was really unhappy after a few weeks so I traded it for a manual. It was definitely the right decision for me, and the financial hit wasn't as bad as you might imagine. I managed to get a better interest rate, dropped the useless extended warranty for a full refund and when all was said and done, it cost me less than $2,000 to switch. Well worth it to be happy with your purchase.

I've been driving manuals for close to 30 years, so i'm kind of biased. To me there's no better way to "connect" with my Mustang, almost like i'm an integral mechanical part of it. Especially on winding roads, mountain roads etc. There's no better feeling than to downshift in 3rd or 4th gear as your entering a curve and flooring the gas pedal, feeling the car settle (thanx irs) and "taking off". Or shifting in second and flooring the gas while making a hard turn and have the rear end break loose. To me that's what it's all about. But like many others said if your in constant traffic a MT can be a drag; the auto trans will make, most of the time, faster 0-60 and 1/4 miles times. Bottom line if you want better 0-60 times, gas milleage and no shifting in traffic go with the auto. If you want to have a better feel/control of your car go with the MT.

Well you might not break even if you trade in, but from what most people say, you gain 4 inches going to a manual, so it may or may not be worth it, depending on your situation.

Well said! after owning and driving an Automatic mustang for 8 years, now owning an MT mustang, you are absolutely right! You can connect with your car much much more with an MT. It takes no skill to drive an AUTO. Yeah, you might get a slightly better time in 0-60 & 1/4 but, the driver gets no credit for that, it's all credited to the car. Having an auto is like strapping an electric motor to each Tour de France bicycle and letting them go! You would never see such a thing in pure racing in any form.

The vocal 40% who buy the manual transmission also wear magnums. Funny but when I was driving a stick shift versa back and forth to work I didn't feel any larger.:D

I had no idea the manual had less features, was slower, and had a bad reputation? I thought the stick shift made the v6 quicker and thought it would be more fun.. If, in fact the stick shift is slower, I would keep the auto....
It's a question of shifting times. The difference between the auto and the mt is in fractions of seconds. On your own you won't notice it. In fact the manual will feel faster because of the whole driving experience. However if you race an auto (with identical specs) in a straight line it'll be in front of the mt by a small margin because of shifting times. On a race track (not drag strip) i think the mt is better in expert hands.

Thanks man. That was a helpful response.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond to this thread! I'm keeping my auto. My next ride, however...

Anytime! Whatever you decide, make sure you have fun. Isn't that what Mustangs are all about?

i wouldn't mind a scat pack automatic. challenger or charger. 8 speed auto, mmmm.

there's a reason why the upcoming ford focus RS and the GT350 only come in manual.

sure the auto is faster for the stoplight racer and the weekend drag racer, but damn, you're not "racing" every second of your life.
