Ok installing my shift light tomorrow, and I have never been a fan of revving a motor to far passed the peak torque rpm. But I have no clue wtf that is lol.. I thought it was around 6800? I am installing cat deletes in a week or so to and that should change the RPM I would shift at right? Any suggestions? I was going to set it at 7k but I think that might be to high because I know your supposed to stay with 500rpms of that peak torque number. Mods in signature..

6500 seems to be the place where max power is made on a stock or lightly modified engine. So I imagine setting a light for 6200 or so, so you have time to shift before you hit it, would work?

The Coyote is so mindblowing to me. My redline is only 6000.

A lot of folks that are tuned are shifting past 7k RPMs. 7200-7400.

7000 isn't even that high. Many exotics can rev to 8k+. It is very high for such a cheap v8 car no doubt. You should see how high most race engines have been revving for the last 40 years lol.

That's why in 5-6 years I hope to upgrade to the GT350 with Voodoo. 8200 redline in a car that starts at $44k (invoice)... :eyebulge: Yes please.

My '14 GT runs its quickest 1/4 mile times shifting at 7300 rpm's. That's with a 100% stock engine and airbox. Coyotes make great power to just over 7000 rpm's with the stock manifolds.

Where does someone install a shift light? What does it cost?

When you think about an engine that lasts a long time without being pulled apart for expensive maintenance, the Coyote holds its own.

I have wondered why Ford didn't set the rev limit higher on the Coyote, because the engine with overhead cam valve train can certainly handle it. I think Ford's philosophy is to seriously over build their engines so that they tend to be extremely durable.

I like that philosophy.

It's not as simple as shifting at peak HP. It's all about area under the curve. Sometimes its better to shift after peak HP because it will result in you having more area under the curve for the next gear. For instance, if you shift 500 RPM early out of second you will end up at a lower starting RPM in third which may not be optimal. You need to plot RPM to MPH for each gear.

That's pretty much what they all do, so you have a better durability, reliability, and they have less warranty issues...
