Ask the fools who bent over for an "ADM" on any of the other hot Mustangs of yesteryear if it they would ever do it again.
Absolutely. Paid $5K over sticker to get my 2007 GT500. Three years later, I paid $3K over sticker to get my 2010 GT500. I have ZERO regrets regarding either purchase. I enjoyed both cars immensely while I owned them and never missed the $8K over MSRP that I spent to get them over the 7 years they were in my garage.

Fortunately, when I bought my 2013 Boss 302, an ADM was not asked, but I would likely have paid it if it meant getting the car I wanted versus choosing from a dealer-ordered vehicle.

I certainly don't consider myself a fool in any case. It's funny, folks who are willing and able to pay an ADM are vilified for doing so, but many times the folks who are doing the talking spend $5/day on cigarettes or $50/week (or more) for alcohol/beer. Add either of those habits up for the seven years I owned the GT500's and you get $12,775 and $18,200, respectively, spent on useless products you will also "never get your money back" on. Who's the bigger fool?

Not sure why folks on are here are so concerned how others spend their money and what others do to their car.

Unfortunately it's not that straight forward. "Meet that demand in a timely manner" is where it gets tricky with high dollar, low volume production with many long lead parts from suppliers. And I assure you not everyone who will end up buying this car is going to be like us, right on the dealers tail, looking to place an early order. There is always a certain amount of speculation required and risk involved in the decision making process.
A build to order model for specialty vehicles would be acceptable for many people who understand "this is a specialty vehicle" For the rest there are other choices for that instant gratification.

Patience is a virtue.

The speculation going into this is not a part of the equation for the initial years 2015 and 2016. FoMoCo already stated the numbers.

The only way for them to build a portfolio of spot on projections would be to see an actual waiting list with actual deposits from committed buyers that exceeds the actual first year production runs and then build more or less to order accordingly.

This prevents too many cars being built and then sitting on lots. It also limits the potential for dealers to make stupid purchases based on their intuition or a hunch that they can sell it and make a killing with markups only to see a car sitting well into the next model release.

When their cumulative stupid decisions sway the industry to alienate the intended target audience then in the end that stupidity effects all of us negatively.

You don’t want to know
It is not the industry's fault. It is the fault of buyers who, rightly or wrongly, will pay ADM. If buyers refused to pay ADM, it would disappear. Manufacturers set guidance on prices, but buyers set the final transaction price.

Why don't you write ford a letter about it? Moaning about it non-stop on here isn't going to make it go away.

What if ford made the MSRP 70k instead? Then what? And "stupid" is a very subjective term, if you ask most normal folks, spending 60k on a completely impracticable car is beyond stupid. Hell I am buying one and I know it is stupid, but I accept it because the perceived value I have assigned it.

Now if others perceived value of the car is higher than yours, such that they are willing to pay a little extra to have it first, im not sure why it gets you so hot and bothered. All it means is you have to wait a little longer than you would like to get the car at the price you would like. Sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it too.:headbonk::headbonk:

And ford will not base production on waitlist orders only, that simply is no feasible. There are too many impulse and late to the party buyers out there that they would neglect.

I did, but don't take that to mean I don't appreciate a good beer! At the end of the day though, you are literally pissing your money away!:D

How is buying a cup of Coffee at Starbucks which tens of millions of people do everyday comparable to a retailer attempting to gouge a potential buyer to the tune of 10 or 20 grand? Really?

Its all relative, no matter what anyone says....I would pay a 5K ADM all day long for an "R" I would not pay 15K...or would I..? Lets say you make 500K a year salary...and you just made the right pick on a stock and got LUCKY...and made 28K in profits in one afternoon.......okay.... so what, if you blow 5K of the 28K on a ADM.....well scenarios like this happen to many, and even some on this thread.....so back to relativity.... the amount of ADM someone pays is relative to; A) how much extra cash someone has. B) how bad they want "that" car. Not if they are stupid, or screwing up the pricing for everyone else..come on ! its all about cash and wants......my .02cents

Maybe there's more going on that you don't need to worry about until it has a positive impact on the consumer market. ;-)

I'm willing to bet that when it does happen...no one will complain.

Oh wait....dealerships might?
