The Shell station I normally fill at changed all their premium over to this Nitro + stuff. I'm never sold on the hype of most of these products. All I know is it costs me the same so sure I'll take it for free...
I wish Shell out here had 93 or 94 octane, and without Ethanol to boot...oh well. At 2000ft, I probably won't see any benefit from 93 octane over 91 anyway.
Yea I'm always using Shell 93 too, haven't noticed any local pumps with it though. I think it has been available in Europe, the article is recognizing it's NA release. Interesting if it's going to replace V Power.
I put that in the tank with recent refueling as they switched it . Don't really see any noticeable difference, just thinking logically can't believe they purged their tanks from previous 93 so guess I'm getting the mix anyway.
It might be the same thing as before just with a different label as well
I recall reading a test conducted here in the states where they tested all the fuels sold by major brands. Shell tested at no. 1 for the most consistent power output and that's what I always try to fill up with.
FWIW I got my car dyno tuned last week and the tuner said to stay away from Shell as they use too many additives. He recommenced Crown,Sunoco, and some Exxon. 2 people getting tuned needed octane booster and they were running Shell and Liberty, I had Crown and didnt need octane booster. Just my 2 cents
In my experience it's as much about the station as it is the fuel brand.
I don't know if some places are just consistently getting the very beginning or end of a run from a pipeline where different octane ratings were separated by a pig with bad seals or something else.
The ethanol in gas seems like a problem. In theory it would provide a slight boost to the octane rating but it has a tendency to separate and is hygroscopic. I wouldn't expect this to be a problem in a typical car fuel tank but the station's bulk tanks could have a substantial layer of watered down alcohol at the bottom. That can reduce the octane rating.
There aren't many options in my area and my best results have been with a BP station. After my tuning results I used that same station for about 9 years and it stayed consistent.
Why are so many people on this site so paranoid about their gas? I just use mobile 99% of the time for my turbo audi, and I have never been worried about bad gas. Is that a common thing? I just use whatever is cheapest.
I don't care what engine you have, running the cheapest gas is not going to feel nearly the same as running good premium gas. I could even tell my old ford fusion ran better whenever I switched just for the fun of it.
I just now went and filled up on a full tank of vpower nitro. It was 2.99/gallon today (because it's Tuesday) and it did run very smooth on my way home. Can't tell if it felt any different than the usual shell 93 though
