Just haven't seen much regarding the 6r80 what's everyone's opinion with the trans like how strong is it exactly? Tuned what's it like? I'm just wondering whats some of the things I could do with this trans to have a bit more fun out of it

Dont expect it to be like a DCT. That being said, its a pretty stout transmission, there's guys running 8's with just a convertor. A tune can really firm up the shift points.

Fun factor is all relative to what your looking for compared to what it's capable of doing. As said, do not expect this to be anything like a DSG, PDK, and DCT, regardless of the mods or tune.

Driving a 6R80 Automatic with a Tune, depending on who does the tuning plus the type of tune loaded (street/performance/race), the shifting can be as gentle as the factory tune or harder than a manual. The shifting isn't necessarily faster, just torque management reduced and line pressure increased to make the shifts snap while shifting at higher rpm's in non-select shift modes.

As for drag racing, the 6R80's are strong, and you won't need to worry about the transmission until you start consistently putting down over 600-700hp, and even then, were only talking upgraded clutch materials, and eventually a stronger intermediate shaft.

How close can this trans compete with the zf 8 speed in the challenger is there even a comparison? I like the feel of a snappy shift when I get on the throttle but does a tune help it compete with it?

Here are a pair of 6R80s going down the track. Can a stock zf keep up?
Stock 6R80s have held over 1000 hp!

The MT-82 (which deserves its own Help! section in the forum) has problems at stock hp with a tune.

My car has been in the shop all week and I've had a challenger with the zf8 as a rental. I never thought I'd be caught dead saying this but the updated challenger is magic with that transmission, the zf8 is an unreasonably good transmission in both standard and sport settings and is probably the single best shifting auto transmission around currently. Actually has me considering a challenger scat pack over the mustang just for the transmission alone.

The 8 speed auto + 392 is an amazing combo, trust me, the pull that car has is monumental.

I would love to see how the 5.0 would benefit from that 8 speed.

The 6R80 is pretty boring for daily driving (even tuned imo) but pretty much bullet proof handling big power applications. there are people running 9'-10's out there with stock 6R80's
If the 1/4 mile is your top priority the 6R80 is the way to go in the coyote platform.

This was the combo that made me switch my order a new car from a Mustang GT auto to the Challenger Scat Pack Auto. The 485 HP coupled with the snappiness of the 8 speed transmission was like heaven to drive.

I actually really liked the Mustang GT, especially with the 3.55 gears. And am really excited to see what the next 10 (or possibly 11?) speeds will bring to the mustang line up.

I wonder what the upper limit is to what would be considered to be too many gears tho? I really feel like the 8 in the auto challengers hits the sweet spot right now

the challenger is still a pig, the 6r is an incredible trans, and if we weren't class racing, we would be putting one into the 7s this year..

I've yet to see dodge and good transmission ever in the same sentence, lol

we'll see how longevity holds up

True, but to be fair, they don't make the 8 speed, ZF does. Look across the BMW lineup - every 2/3/4/5/6/7 series (including the X vehicles but not the M cars) uses the ZF8 and it is establishing a great track record. The software may be different with the Dodge version but the tranny hardware itself is legit.
