Hey all,

i want to start this thread because the next thing on my mod list is, you guessed it, upgrading the brakes.

Now i have a pretty decent knowledge of the mechanical side of engines and drive-train in general, but i am quite the noob when it comes to brakes. So let this thread be about the discussion of brake upgrades for our cars, whether it'll be rotors, pads, big brake upgrades and anything else brake related.

First question: does anybody know of a rotor that will fit our cars and is vented/cross drilled?

Do you know why you want cross drilled rotors? You don't get any better stopping power and heat dissipation won't be much different from a good vented rotor. Slotted/swish rotors are what I would recommend as they promote more even pad wear. Almost all production rotors are vented, FYI, and only smaller rear ones on economy-based cars are solid. I believe the Mustang rotors are all vented.

Good pads and brake fluid are what keep your braking performance and pedal feel consistent at the track.

See, i'm learning already. I am 99% sure our rear brakes are solid and not vented. My dream would be to upgrade to the Brembos but that's costly and i would also have to buy bigger wheels/tires to clear them.

My plan is to upgrade to the base GT/EB PP front rotors and calipers. You can still fit an 18" wheel and those brakes are more than adequate for anything less than continuous laps on a race track.

Could you tell me the difference between our brakes and the PP ones?

The base GT/EB PP ones are 13.9" rotors and 4 piston calipers. Our fronts are 12.6" rotors and 2 piston calipers. The EB PP and (all) GT get 13.0" rear rotors as opposed to the 12.6" on the V6 and non-PP EB. Performance pack rear rotors are vented, the 12.6" discs are not - you were correct.

Upgrading only the fronts would change the brake bias to a bit more front, but not a huge amount.

Ahhhh only two pistons!!!. Solid info anyways. How are you planning on getting them? through PP owners that want to upgrade to something better? brand new from Ford?

I had a thread about this in brakes about 2 months ago and asked AM if their 2014 v6 brake kit with rotors and pads fit. LOng story short they said it wasn't the brakes that would be the better option but tires. It will stop much faster and besides the point our Goodyear f1 asymmetric are known for being crap.... I don't have an opinion on those tires personally, but everyone seems to hate them. I just wanted slotted rotors for looks lol.

I remember that thread and yes, you will stop faster with stickier tires. Bigger brakes will just reduce fade for the tires equipped on the car. As the grip of the tires goes up, you will eventually need bigger brakes to continually get more stopping power. If the brakes can lock up the tires/engage ABS, then they're strong enough.

Major waste of money unless you track it. Or if you have 500+hp on tap.

Agreed! I loved mine.

It is a waste of money unless you're doing regular autocross/track driving. Mine will be frequent autocross and maybe once a year a track day. The base GT brakes will be plenty good for that and a lot cheaper than big ones from the aftermarket.

Before i'd throw out the brakes i'd do aggressive pads and race fluid...
Might just do fine.
Imho, anything short of professional road racing, stockers are fine.
Not sure if there are any options for pads yet.

Are the v6 brakes shared with other fords?
