Hey Guys - I'm sure you've seen that the Bama Performance Team has been hard at with their 9-Second S550 as well as their new and improved V2 Tunes but they're just now wrapping up research & development on their Automatic Tunes. We just recently brought on an automatic 2015 GT and in bone stock form it was able to best some pretty solid numbers 361 RWHP and 342 RWTQ While they're respectable figures the Bama Performance Team wanted to focus on making some more power along with cleaning up the driveabiltiy.

The guys at Bama wanted to dial in just how the power was put down and they made some really dramatic changes to the shift profile in order for their customers to have more crisp shift points, a greatly improved and more aggressive throttle response, and again better driveabiltiy on either WOT or just getting around town!

On 87 Octane and a Bama Performance Tune the S550 put down 372 RWHP and 344 RWTQ and swapping from 87 to 93 octane they saw some really incredible gains to the tune of 393 RWHP and 377 RWTQ!

Stock RWHP/RWTQ: 361/342

Tuned RWHP/RWTQ: 393/377

Peak Gains RWHP/RWTQ: 32/35

If anyone has any questions don't hesitate to let me know!

Does the tune increase the response time of the paddle shifters or simply make the shifts feel more firm?

Hey Racer -

The Bama team makes multiple changes to improve the shift times over stock - If you're looking for a better idea here I am riding shotgun not too long ago!

So these gains were with just a tune only? No CAI?

Great job!
NF4 - That's correct! Bama wanted to see what it was capable of bone stock. Rest assured they're not done with this car yet! Stay Tuned!

So with the 93 octane Max versus stock 93 your gains are 14hp RWHP and 9 RWTQ

Peak gains were from two things - raising the octane from 87 to 93 and the tune itself. Peak gains from just the tune were 11/2 correct? (372 RWHP and 344 RWTQ)

Good eye, just saw that on the dyno sheet. So what's up with the quoted baseline numbers? Alittle confusing now...was the 361 baseline with 87 maybe?

Yea that sounds about right ,which really is not bad for a tune only.

Agreed, more important is the trans tuning, drivability, and getting the car to shift at wot where you want it to. I know my tuner struggled with my 12 auto in the beginning getting the shift points at wot dialed in.

Absolutely and them faster shift points are going to add up to some lower et's in the 1/4 mile. That was one of the biggest issues with the autos tuned, just took some time to get the kinks out lol.

Yes, trying to be sneaky. No offense to AM but nothing about the Bama tunes is impressive. Some you guys with Bama tunes must have seen the other posts and ask yourself why is there such a big difference...

Hey Guys,

Sorry about some of the confusion here but take a look at this plot below:

You're going to see:

Stock 87
Bama Tuned 87
Bama Tuned 93

You can see in the graph in my first post that this doesn't include the gains throughout the rest of the curve (look at torque around 3500-4000 or horsepower around 5300 RPM, where the gains were much larger than peak gains). You can see in this dyno graph that I've added above the difference between 87 octane stock, 87 octane Bama tuned and 93 octane Bama tuned. Again, make sure to look at the gains throughout the whole curve instead of just looking at peak numbers.

Here's a few comments right from the Bama Team:

"
Peak Gains – Peak HP/TQ gains are the HIGHEST power outputs during a dyno run. Curve Gains – The largest difference between two (or more) dyno runs that MAY NOT be the highest power output.

For example, this car made PEAK power of 393 with our tune and 361 stock (this is a difference of 14HP) but at 5800rpm the car made 385rwhp with our tune and 370.5 stock, which gives us a difference of 14.5HP. The gain or difference is greater in this area even though the HP figure is not as high as the peak.

Because cars are rated/measured by their PEAK HP, this is what we advertise. We also highlight curve gains because anywhere you can pick up power (especially if the difference is greater than peak gains) it’s a huge victory.

Let me know if anyone has any other questions and I'm here to help.

Yes, trying to be sneaky. No offense to AM but nothing about the Bama tunes is impressive. My Lightning was tuned by Bama and I enjoyed it but they can't seem to match what other tuners are getting out of these motors. Some you guys with Bama tunes must have seen the other posts and ask yourself why is there such a big difference...

95Cobb - We're being as transparent as possible here and I think our comments above should help clear some of this up. If for any reason we we're trying to be even remotely sneaky we would only advertize the highest gains, which would be curve gains but we opted to have the LOWER of the gains posted. As per the Tune on your Truck Bama hasn't offered Lighting Tunes unless I've missed something being here for the past 4 years!

Alex

Because alot of it is a bunch of bs,i dont care what anyone says a tune alone is not gaining crazy amounts of hp no matter if jesus his self tunes it.Their adding some timing, remapping the fly by wire tb and shift points for tune only. Those are good numbers for a tune only.Man i cant wait to hit the track, then lets see wheir all this hp is.

I just don't know why you would baseline and tune it on 87? I guess there is a few who may be interested in that, but for most they will use the highest pump octane available in their area.

So I would never compare and advertise baseline 87 to tuned 93 numbers. All I'm interested in is 93 baseline vs 93 tuned myself.

But like I stated earlier there are a lot of other things which go into making a great auto tune (firmer shifts, drivability, wot shift points, etc)

Thanks for all the info!

My car was not tuned through bama but i did use the sctx4,and after multiple tweaks with a tuner doing a custom tune while also datalogging on the street those numbers that bama got were pretty damm close to mine.Again thats tune alone.Cai adds about another 7 to 10 hp.
