As the title says, is there any reason why I can't use my floor jack at the differential to lift the rear of this car and then place my jack stands at rear oem jack points?

The manual just mentions oem jack points for tire removal using Oem jack.

Time to get this exhaust in, got the rest of the day off...

NO!! That will be a bad, bad thing.

Edit - Looks like it is OK to jack up the car via the chunk.

Thanks I figured as much, so where is the correct location for floor jack placement?

Believe it or not, the rear diff on my s2000 was ok for jacking as specified by Honda.

Not sure to be honest. Someone started another thread I believe end of last week asking this very question. Not sure he ever got an answer.

Let me see if I can find that thread.

I never understood why not just jack up a side at a time... Sure, it takes like 5-10 min longer, but it's not that big of an inconvenience. Or, just get ramps.

Yup already read both threads, seems everyones assumptions are based on the oem stating to only lift at the specified locations when using the oem tire changer jack which would be based off of saftey reasons using the flimsy oem jack in a questionable location on the side of the road. Ford isn't refferencing me using a multi ton floor jack on a flat level slab of cement with wheels chalked and setting on jack stands.

My wife is out getting tacos for lunch. If I don't get an answer by the time I'm done chowing down, im going to crawl underneath (I'm very skinny) to look for reinforcements around the rear diff and the mosy likely just go for it, very careful like.

The diff is NOT designed to hold the weight of the car. Don't do that.

Thanks, where is the correct rear center jack point?

I've had several rwd independent rear vehicles that were designed to be center jacked in the rear at the differential, can you please tell me where you found this information?

I'm not 100% sure if there is a center rear. What are you looking to do that requires that point?

You want jack stands on the 4 points that are called out in the owners manual, and potentially used in tandem with ramps.

Ah, so just another assumption based on the owners manual suggested jack points using the oem jack, as I thought.

I'm going to be replacing the exhaust today. If you are using an adequate floor jack in a controlled level environment, there is no safety hazard with lifting at one rear center point and then setting it down on jack stands at the suggested oem rear locations. If there are no mechanical implications im doing it.

Any ford automotive technicians in the house?

I have never jacked up any of my IRS Cobra's or my '15 on the center chunk, ever.

I always jacked on the jack points and placed my jack stands on the right locations of the IRS and front suspension.

I have jacked right here 20 times already. Then install jackstands in the grooves on each side.

I say go for it. I've used a floor jack on rear diff on all types of cars and trucks with no downside. It'll be fine. You're not gonna dent or bend anything, and it won't ruin anything "in the long run".
