2018 convertible Ecoboost premium. I'm a cheapskate so I was trying to put winter tires on by myself. It was going fine until I was jacking up the rear with a hydraulic jack under the differential as recommended here: https://www.cjponyparts.com/resources/how-to-jack-up-your-2015-mustang
As I was jacking it up, there was a loud ping and the car dropped slightly. I believe what happened is the jack teeth around the saddle were not resting steadily and one of them slipped off the edge of the differential cover. You can see a chip bit out of it at the bottom. My question is, how bad did I screw this up? Too my eyes the bottom of the differential does not look level, is it supposed to be? The car still drives fine as far as I can tell. Thank you for any relief you can give to my paranoia.

I don t see any "clean" mark along where you say it s uneven to indicated it moved. Probabaly like that always.

Use a small 2"x4" wooden block between the jack cup and whatever you are jacking up. Helps cushion and grip without damaging anything.

Thank you everyone! No leaks and driving fine. I'll post again if I encounter any issues.

The differential rear flange/cover is not level to the ground between the lowest two cover bolts. IOW, that's normal Your diff looks fine to me, according to your photo.
This, and just to confirm it with a photo :

Get yourself a pinch weld puck and jack up each wheel individually by their respective jack point. Yes, it takes a little longer but dead solid and no concerns about damage.

I use a regular (Walmart, Sport authority etc) hockey puck. Don t really need the cut, it does it itself when you use it. Cheaper too.

That’s an option too. I bought a magnetic aluminum one on Amazon for the equivalent of about US$10. Don’t have to worry about it failing. Plus I have lots of room for tools and so on.
